Taeyeon: Leader Of Girls’ Generation Releases Teasers For Second Mini-Album ‘Why,’ Including Full Music Video For Song ‘Starlight’

Late last year, it was revealed that certain members of So Nyeo Shi Dae, better known as Girls’ Generation, would expand on their solo music careers. Since then, Tiffany and Yuri have been reported to be some of the members pursuing such an endeavor. As a matter of fact, Tiffany recently released her first extended play (EP), I Just Wanna Dance , a mini-album featuring six songs, including its title song that shares the same name as the mini-album.

Though Tiffany received decent recognition for her solo debut, and there is much hype and anticipation for when Yuri finally joins the solo music fray, the one Girls’ Generation member who has enjoyed the most success with her solo career is Taeyeon. With her first EP, titled I , releasing late last year, Taeyeon has been pushed more than any other Girls’ Generation member pertaining to their respective solo careers in general. This can be seen by the fact that within months of I releasing, she released a new, stand-alone song titled “ Rain, ” which was used to introduce the K-pop community to SM Station.

Now, K-pop fans, especially those who are Taegangers (the official fan club for Taeyeon), have more to look forward to as Taeyeon will soon release her second EP, a mini-album titled Why. Not only that, Taeyeon is dropping many goodies to help build hype for Why, including the full track list and music video teasers.

From what is known from previous teasers of Taeyeon’s Why , her second mini-album gives off a 90s retro feel , as she lounges by the pool while soaking up rays of the sun, as reported by Soompi . Her clothing is reminiscent of the time, which includes short jean shorts, screen print shirts, and novelty sunglasses featuring lenses shaped into hearts. The pictorial teasers have been enough to start the hype, but Taeyeon has capitalized on it more by releasing the full track list for Why , as reported by AllKpop .

Upon further inspection of the leaked track list for Why, we can see that the featured track shares the same name as the album. Not only that, Taeyeon will be featuring two other music artists on her mini-album, too. The first is South Korean alternative R&B singer-songwriter and record producer Dean, who will be featured in a duet with Taeyeon in the song “Starlight.” Second is fellow Girls’ Generation member Hyoyeon in the song “Up & Down,” which will be amazing if this song happens to be a cover by EXID.

We will have to wait to see if “Up & Down” is in fact an EXID cover, but fans have already been given a taste of what the title song “Why” sounds like with a teaser. Currently, the hype has shifted to “Starlight,” as the full music video for the song has recently been released on SM Entertainment’s official YouTube page. Within one day (published on June 25 in South Korea), it has already been viewed over two million times with more than 165 thousand likes as of this writing.

The full album, Why , is set to release on June 28 in South Korea (meaning it will release on June 27 for most countries in the west). Along with the three songs already detailed earlier, four more songs — “Fashion,” “Hands on Me,” “Good Thing,” and “Night” — will also be featured.
