When searching for the funniest comedy movies on Netflix, it’s easy to overlook some quality titles. As the Inquisitr reported, there are new movies coming to Netflix in September , but there are currently a variety of comedies available now so viewers don’t have to wait. Netflix provides subscribers with a flurry of movies and often high-quality films are overlooked. Some of these movies are classics that newer generations might have missed, and others are modern movies that often get lost in the shuffle.

In The Loop (2009)

This hilarious independent comedy is a spinoff from the BBC series The Thick of IT. An all-star cast, featuring James Gandolfini, exchanges witty banter in this mockumentary about American and British representatives trying to prevent a war.

Spies Like Us (1985)

This classic comedy starring Dan Aykroyd and Chevy Chase is currently streaming on Netflix. The comedy duo portrays a pair of government employees who get promoted as U.S. spies. Unbeknownst to them, they are nothing more than decoys.

For decades, Neil Simon’s name has been synonymous with comedy movies that reflect real life situations. The comedy genius has brought audiences movies like The Odd Couple, Barefoot in the Park, The Goodbye Girl, The Out-of-Towners, and many more. Netflix is hosting his classic movie, Max Dugan Returns , starring Jason Robards, Marsha Mason, Donald Sutherland, and Matthew Broderick. Neil Simon has built a reputation on creating in-depth characters with dialogue that features great back-and-forth banter — Max Dugan Returns is a great example of this.

This comedy-drama stars Simon Pegg, who is as charming as ever. Pegg plays a psychiatrist who decides he truly hasn’t experienced life and decides to travel the world in search for true happiness.

Mother (1996)

Albert Brooks co-wrote, directed, and starred alongside Debbie Reynolds in this comedy movie that is true-to-life. Brooks plays an author who is twice-divorced that moves back in with his mother in hopes to understand why his romantic relationships keep failing.

The witty dialogue between Brooks and Reynolds is sure to entertain viewers, while the story between the two is sure to warm their hearts. This comedy movie also has appearances from Lisa Kudrow and John C. McGinley.

Adventureland (2009)

Despite an all-star cast led by Jesse Eisenberg, Kristen Stewart, Ryan Reynolds, and Bill Hader, this comedy movie did not gross well in theaters, but the critics raved for it. This coming-of-age movie is semi-autobiographical about a nowhere job once held by writer and director Greg Mottola ( Superbad, Clear History, The Daytrippers) .

Jesse Eisenberg plays a college graduate who has to spend his summer working for an amusement park. Along the way, he forms a bond with a group of employees and a crush on one in particular. This nostalgic film tells a heartwarming story of friendship and love and will provide Netflix viewers with plenty of laughs.
