Selena Gomez Targeted By Sweatshop Protesters At Fashion Show

Selena Gomez was targeted by protestors as she attended the first ever fashion show for NEO by Adidas, for which she serves as brand ambassador.

At the event, Gomez settled into the front row but she didn’t have much time to get comfortable. About halfway through, she was ambushed during the event by a woman wearing a t-shirt and hoodie who forced a flyer on the young actress-singer and other guests that read, “Selena Gomez: Be an ambassador for children, not for sweatshops.”

The Selena Gomez protestor didn’t get far before security escorted her off the premises, but the protest didn’t end there.

From omg :

“The [original] protester proceeded to walk along the front row, handing out copies to as many other event-goers as she could. According to an omg! reporter who attended the event, the woman made it nearly all around the runway before being caught and escorted out by security, at which point a fellow protester popped out of the audience armed with more flyers … and was quickly grabbed by security.”

The group called United Students Against Sweatshops claims that Adidas has refused to pay $1.8 million in legally owed severance to thousands of workers in Indonesia. The workers are unable to send their children to school as a result, the group says.

United Students Against Sweatshops seems to have picked an odd target in Selena Gomez. She has worked with UNICEF since 2008 and was the youngest ambassador ever for the charity.

Selena Gomez appeared shocked and rattled by the interruption, US Weekly noted. Still, she managed to compose herself and thank the designers after the show was over.

“Thank you so much for coming out,” Selena Gomez said. “I’m so excited to be a part of this and so excited to see what you guys did with it, you did an amazing job!”
