Nick Cannon has took on many projects over the last couple of years. He’s a radio personality, a television host of America’s Got Talent , a producer, and an actor. Now Cannon revealed that he’s taking advantage of his NBC holding deal by working on some exciting projects. One project is the relaunch of 70s show Soul Train .
Over the weekend, theGrio caught up with Cannon and revealed his deal with NBC that would see him bring the entertainment show Soul Train back to the network. This deal was made with his production company NCredible Entertainment, which is also resurrecting his improv series Wild ‘n Out for MTV2.
Speaking about his plans to relaunch Soul Train , Cannon said:
“It means so much for our culture. It truly is something that to be able to bring through my deal at NBC Universal is that in itself is kind of taking it to the next level for where the brand began. I’m excited about that.”
This isn’t the only tie he has to Soul Train . During a recent interview with Zap2it Cannon revealed: “A lot of people don’t know it, but at the age of 15, I was a Soul Train dancer.”
Soul Train was a variety show created by Don Cornelius, and ran for decades from 1971 to 2006. The show featured R&B, soul, funk, disco, and hip hop to a mainstream audience.
When Cannon relaunches Soul Train , he admitted that he does have its original creator in mind:
“To be a producer as well as a host — in the same capacity he did it, as a great businessman with the brand — is what I plan to do.”
Nick Cannon’s production company NCredible Entertainment was started in 2009, and since then has went on to produce MTV’s documentary series Son of a Gun , and will be involved in the relaunch of Soul Train .
