Rumors are currently swirling that Hollywood superstar and all-around great guy Ryan Gosling is up for a role in the cinematic adaptation of the hit “mommy porn” novel Fifty Shades of Grey . The Notebook heartthrob will allegedly tackle the role of Christian Grey, a fact which should make more than a few ladies swoon with delight. However, apparently someone out there isn’t too crazy about the latest batch of rumors. That person, it would seem, is the book’s author.
According to Movie Fix , Fifty Shades of Grey writer E.L. James doesn’t seem too happy that Ryan Gosling could sign on to star in the upcoming film, a fact which is more than a little perplexing. Given the critical lashing the book has received and the numerous accolades Gosling has generated over the years, having someone of his stature in the production should be a cause for great elation. James, however, isn’t as excited about the rumors as everyone else on the planet.
The Gosling-related rumor, which was confirmed by the author’s husband Niall Leonard in Now Magazine , prompted James to issue an all-capital letter response to the news on her Twitter account. However, the comment disappeared shortly after it arrived, though not before others caught wind of the writer’s unhappiness. Judging from the tone of the tweet, James is a little tired of dealing with this stuff.
“ALL CASTING NEWS [IS] NOT TRUE. ALL ARE JUST RUMOURS AT THE MOMENT. YES, SHOUTY CAPITALS. GRRR,” she wrote. The post later vanished into thin air.
Her agitation is understandable, as rumors about the Fifty Shades of Grey movie have been all over the place as of late. Not too long ago, Harry Potter sweetheart Emma Watson was reportedly up for the role of Anastasia Steele in the upcoming feature. However, that, too, turned out to be nothing more than pure internet speculation.
Ryan Gosling has yet to comment on the rumors. However, his portrayal of Christian Grey would certainly put butts in theater seats.
