Thompson noticed a recent trend among movie studios regarding casting choices for certain roles. She believes that the movie studios cast young actors with strong social media followings so that the movie studios can use their followings to sell their movie. She went on to say that if movie studios keep up with the trend of hiring young stars because of their social media followings, the end result will be a disaster.
At the age of 57, Thompson has picked up two Oscars: one for best actress for her role in Howard’s End and the other for the best-adapted screenplay for Sense and Sensibility .
Emma Thompson is a consummate professional and a drawcard for any movie that she becomes involved with. According to Vanity Fair , Emma Thompson’s role in the upcoming third entry in the Bridget Jones series was met with nothing but excitement from fans.

Colin Firth returns to the third installment as Mark Darcy and once again stars opposite Renee Zellweger’s Bridget Jones. The two have been a constant present in the movie franchise so far, yet their well-established dynamic will, this time, become mixed with the addition of two new characters: Patrick Dempsey’s Jack Qwant and Emma Thompson’s Dr. Rawling.
In the latest trailer for the highly-anticipated film, Emma Thompson’s character is featured more prominently with some noteworthy lines. She plays the role of the ob-gyn of the now-pregnant Bridget Jones, and the second trailer gives fans a glimpse into how Emma Thompson will work within the cast of the film, as well as giving fans as ideas as to what her character can bring to the table.
Bridget Jones finds herself torn between two men and a guessing game as to who is the father of her unborn baby. Emma Thompson’s Dr. Rawling finds utter amusement at the predicament of Jones in the trailer, and even likens the choice Jones has to make to the choice in The X-Factor finale.
Emma Thompson and Patrick Dempsey are both newcomers to the Bridget Jones franchise, yet their roles seem to the what fans are most excited about in the upcoming sequel. In an unusual twist, fans of the franchise don’t seem to mind that series regular Hugh Grant has decided not to reprise his role in the latest film, despite the fact that his presence was crucial to the plots of the first two films. Instead, fans are most looking forward to seeing what Emma Thompson and the former Grey’s Anatomy star can bring into the mix.
Bridget Jones’s Baby is set to hit theaters on September 16, 2016.
