Since Episode 8 of HBO’s Game of Thrones aired, fans have been anxiously waiting the synopsis for Episode 9. HBO has maintained a tight rein on releasing potential spoilers for Season 6, and the synopses for the remaining episodes are no exception.

SPOILER ALERT: This article contains information and speculation about the remaining Season 6 episodes of HBO’s Game of Thrones . Please proceed with caution if you wish to avoid potential spoilers.

Fans have suspected for a while that Episode 9, just by its title alone, will indicate the massive battle HBO has been teasing fans with all season. However, HBO has delayed releasing a synopsis for this episode until now. According to the Independent , the synopsis for Episode 9 of Game of Thrones is short and sweet.

“Terms of surrender are rejected and accepted.”

While HBO is usually pretty vague when it comes to synopses for episodes of Game of Thrones , this one really is the icing on the cake. That is until you read the synopsis for the Season 6 finale of Game of Thrones : “Season Finale. Cersei faces her trial.” But, before we get to Episode 10, let’s try and work out what might happen in Episode 9.

Fans are expecting an epic battle between the two bastards, Jon Snow (Kit Harrington) and Ramsay Bolton (Iwan Rheon), in Episode 9, thanks to its title, “Battle of the Bastards.” However, the synopsis suggests this battle may also contain some negotiating. Or does it? Could one party offer terms of surrender and the other party reject them, thus leading to the acceptance of battle? Or, could this single sentence refer to separate incidences?

“Terms of surrender” could relate to the siege at Riverrun as well as the battle between the Starks and Ramsay Bolton. Even though Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) had secured Riverrun from Blackfish (Clive Russell) in Episode 8 , there will still likely be negotiations ahead, especially considering Riverrun is supposed to be returned to the Freys. Now the Freys have Riverrun back, Walder (David Bradley) could insist Edmure Tully (Tobias Menzies), who was used by Jaime to help secure Riverrun, to fight against the Starks. But would Edmure do this? Only time will tell, it seems.

Another recent plot line that may potentially involve negotiations includes Daenerys’ recent return to Meereen during the Masters attack. Could Daenerys offer terms of surrender to the Masters, or vice versa? If so, this one small synopsis sentence could actually relate to two separate plot lines in Episode 9 of Game of Thrones , which is very clever of HBO. And, let’s face it, with Episode 9 running at 60 minutes, it seems unlikely the entire episode will be dedicated to a single storyline.

As for the Season 6 finale of Game of Thrones, Episode 10 is called “The Winds of Winter.” This title is also the name for the upcoming book by George R.R. Martin. Whether this will be an indicator for events that will unfold in this much-anticipated book the TV series is based on or merely a nod to the source material, is anyone’s guess for now. However, the synopsis released indicates Cersei’s (Lena Headey) trial will be held over until Episode 10 and fans may not find out just what she and Qyburn (Anton Lesser) were whispering about in Episode 8 until then. If the theory Cersei is on the hunt for wildfireis true, Episode 10 is sure to be worthy of its 69-minute run time.
