The new Neutron XTi SSD drive is about to hit the market at 2TB. This is exciting news for PC builders looking for a speedy 2.5 inch drive, or laptop and MacBook owners looking for an upgrade for gaming and video editing. You should probably max out your RAM and video cards while you’re at it to ensure this technological wonder gets its compliment of power.
This hard drive could also be perfect for the next upgrade to Sony’s PlayStation 4, codenamed “Neo.” The console is said to be made to support 4K resolution and virtual reality displays, and this hard drive offers a mid-range capacity for more picky gamers who don’t need every big game out there.

The reason why the Neutron XTi SATA SSD drive might be great for the PS4 and not the Xbox One is that this generation, Microsoft decided not to let users swap out the hard drive themselves. You almost need to be a hacker and a mechanic just to make it happen, and that’s valuable game time. They are rumored to be offering an upgraded model next year, called the “Scorpio,” which will be almost PC-level power in a console. It will allegedly support the Oculus Rift, which requires extremely high-end PC specs to even work.
Corsair’s Neutron XTi hard drive will supposedly support low-latency controls, meaning almost instantaneous response. There is little more annoying in a console game than pressing a button and wondering if it even registered in that split second you need to get that shot in before your virtual head explodes, just because a sniper had faster reflexes.
Corsair released a statement about their latest high-capacity “wonder drive.”
“Designed for consistent performance the Neutron Series XTi handles very high sustained transfer rates with ease, enabled by an expanded cache making it possible to capture and edit professional Full HD and 4K uncompressed video in real-time, as well as play PC games with absolute maximum detail levels. … The Neutron Series XTi utilizes a dedicated quad-core controller for top tier speeds with sustained performance and low command latency. The result is exceptional transfer speeds of up to 560MB/sec, 540MB/s sequential write, 4KB random read of up to 100K IOPS and 4K random write of up to 90K IOPS; up to the tasks of today’s most demanding end-users.”
The drive “pairs the blisteringly quick quad-core ‘Phison’ controller with multi-level cell (MLC) NAND flash memory,” according to PC Gamer . This of course means that your PlayStation 4’s Neo Mode will have no problem boosting the frame rate on even the most demanding titles. Your game of Destiny , Grand Theft Auto V , Overwatch , or Mad Max should run silky smooth, even if you might still be battling the camera at times.

The biggest downside is that Corsair’s new SSD drive may cost as much as the PlayStation Neo itself. The current price for a 960GB version XT drive is about $420 on Amazon , so you can expect the new one to probably be more expensive than the console itself. If you want the best possible performance though, you can always get a high-end gaming laptop or build yourself a PC with a slim hard drive bay.
Corsair says Neutron XTi series will be available today priced at $90 for 240GB, $160 for 480GB and $330 for 960GB. https://t.co/FrtuSciMFW
