Miley Cyrus is reportedly working on new music. After experimenting with urban-pop on Bangerz and collaborating with the Flaming Lips, the singer is going in another direction yet again.
Miley Cyrus is reportedly working with rock duo Stepfather on her next album. The St. Louis-based band took to Instagram to tell fans that they’ve been making music with the “We Can’t Stop” singer. They also hinted that the music will be coming very soon.
The band also posted a photo of Miley whose back is seen facing the camera while she’s wearing a denim jacket and pointing to the band’s name above her.
“Been off the grid with Miley and Jesse working on new tunes! Thanks to anyone still hanging around. new jams soon!!! (SIC)” the caption reads.
Additionally, the lo-fi rock band revealed on Twitter via DM that they were currently writing songs with Cyrus.
“We wrote a song together that we are going to be releasing as stepfather in the next couple of weeks as well as music for her upcoming project,” they wrote.

It’s clear that Cyrus is going in a different direction once again. This would be the follow-up to her 2015 free LP Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz . And don’t forget the surprise sad Christmas song that Cyrus released over the holidays last year.

It looks like Stepfather isn’t the only band who has set their sights on working with Miley. Punk-rock band SWMRS recently told Rolling Stone that they’re captivated by the pop star. Frontman Cole Becker told the publication that he first took notice of Miley when she dramatically changed her image.
“I wrote an article about her entering that Quentin Jones movie in the New York City porn festival for [Berkeley’s] Daily Cal newspaper about a year ago, and that kind of sparked interest because I didn’t really pay attention to her when Bangerz came out.”
Becker added that learning about her Happy Hippie Foundation and duet with Against Me!’s Laura Jane Grace prompted them to learn more about the singer, which led them to write the song “Miley,” their ode to the star.
“[Miley] took something with her power that you get only for a certain amount of time as a Disney star and she did something with it,” says singer-guitarist Max Becker, Cole’s older brother.
The singer also has her sights set on returning to the small screen. She’s currently filming Woody Allen’s upcoming Amazon series. Miley will also fill in Christina Aguilera’s seat on an upcoming season of The Voice .
In addition, NBC’s new variety show, Maya & Marty , starring Maya Rudolph and Martin Short has also enlisted Miley as a guest star for their May 31 debut episode. Other guest stars include Larry David, Jimmy Fallon, Tom Hanks, and Kenan Thompson.
Cyrus made her mark on TV and music when she hosted the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards. She closed the show off by playing a set with Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne and then announced her new album – a collaboration with the band – that was immediately available for free online. The album was met with mixed criticism by music critics and Cyrus’ own fans, who weren’t sure what to make of the music.
Wayne Coyne addressed some of the criticism in his interview with The New York Times . He said that everything Cyrus recorded on the album was raw and genuine.
“A lot of things that ended up being on the ‘Dead Petz’ record, I was there when she was making it up. I’d ask, ‘Are you embarrassed by that?’ But that’s what’s powerful about it. She doesn’t have any filter. There’s no reason to have any filter. It’s so badass.”
Miley and the Flaming Lips have collaborated before on a cover of the Beatles’ classic hit “Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds” and their odd short film titled “Blonde SuperFreak Steals the Magic Brain.”
