‘Game Of Thrones’ Season 6 Episode 6: Is Margaery Tyrell Playing The Game? [Spoilers]

Game of Thrones Season 6 Episode 6 made it look like Margaery Tyrell was going to do the Walk of Penance. However, just before Jaime Lannister could set the Tyrell troops on the Sparrows, the High Sparrow made it clear that Margaery had atoned in another way.

Caution: For those who haven’t seen “Blood of My Blood” yet, this will contain spoilers.

Margaery stood with the Sparrows on the steps looking down on the people. As the High Sparrow made it clear that she had chosen to atone for her sins, Jaime Lannister and the Tyrell army appeared. They wanted both Margaery and Loras to return to the Red Keep, and they would fight if necessary. The High Sparrow wasn’t interested in that, but he also made it clear that there would be no walk of shame for the queen.

She had brought another person into the Faith. It was none other than King Tommen, her husband. It was clear that he was going to be easily swayed, but the look on her face suggested that she wasn’t quite pulled in by the Faith. Based on her actions two weeks ago, it also looks like she put a plan together quickly in her head when seeing the state that her brother Loras was in.

Is it possible that she is playing the game of thrones? Is she just looking out for her own family, finding a way to weaken the Sparrows from the inside? If her husband becomes a victim, would she just say so be it?

This is a difficult one to call. Margaery has made it very clear from the beginning that she is a smart young woman with ambition. It is clear that she is based on some of the many queen consorts of English kings, including Anne Boleyn, Elizabeth Woodville, and even Katherine Parr. You just have to look at the way she atoned for her sins to see Katherine Parr’s story come out.

Katherine was the sixth wife of Henry VIII and almost found herself arrested for heresy. She was so smart that she apologized to her husband, telling him that she was a silly woman and needed him to teach her. It played to his vanity and helped to save her life. When it came to her arrest, Henry VIII stood up to her.

While Margaery’s storyline is very different in nature, there seems to be some similarity. Has she realized that the way to get out of her cell and get her brother to safety is to pretend to atone; to help the Sparrows get King Tommen on side but in a way that she can still work her own manipulation?

There is no clue about this when looking at the trailer for Game of Thrones Season 6 Episode 7. The main focus looks to be on River Run, Sansa and Jon, and the Tyrells and Lannisters working to save their children. It will be interesting to see if Margaery confides in her grandmother, knowing she can trust her, to tell her the full plan that she is working in her head.

This week’s episode of Game of Thrones was slow-paced. It didn’t have the battle that some fans expected after seeing the trailer. However, there are still four episodes left. This episode was there to set up the storyline for the second half of Game of Thrones Season 6, whether it was Sam stealing his father’s sword or Benjen Stark reappearing to save Bran and Meera.

Only time will tell if Margaery is playing the game to save herself and her brother. It certainly looks like that is possible. She doesn’t seem like the type of character to become brainwashed in Game of Thrones .
