With mod support for Fallout 4 coming soon to the Xbox One, Microsoft’s Larry Hyrb is hoping to get fans more excited about the upcoming release of player-created content for home consoles. While PC users are likely very familiar with community mods for Bethesda’s popular open-world titles, Fallout 4 promises to offer console gamers their first chance to try out the user-generated content for themselves.
Giving Xbox One owners a look at what PC players have already created thanks to their modding efforts in Fallout 4 , Hyrb showcased several of his current favorite mods on his official Major Nelson blog . These examples serve as just a taste of the kind of new content that console players can expect when Fallout 4 mod support finally launches across all consoles.
“When Fallout 4 released last year, many of you were excited to hear a modding capability was being added to allow you to modify various components of the game. Using Bethesda’s Creation Kit (the same tool used to create Fallout 4 ), modders can create new quests, environments, characters, dialogue, outfits, weapons and more.”
Many of the Fallout 4mods that have already gained popularity on PC will also be available on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 since players will be able to download the content directly from the BethesdaNet service. This means that fans will immediately be able to try out existing mods that already add equipment such as alien rifles and night vision devices to Fallout 4.
Among Hyrb’s picks for his favorite community-made content were several mods that give users more options for settlement building. Once modders are allowed to release their content on consoles, players can expect to be able to place new structures in towns as well as have the choice to turn existing areas on Fallout 4 ‘s map into additional settlements.
Hyrb also confirmed that Xbox One owners will be able to download and install Fallout 4mods directly from inside the game. Users will even be able to leave feedback for the content without having to exit the application. This simple one-click access to mods was exactly how the developer had hoped to deliver Fallout 4mods to console platforms. As the Inquisitr reportedlate last year, Bethesda’s Pete Hines spoke about the team’s desire to make getting mods as easy as possible.
“We do it in a way that’s easy. I get asked this a lot on social media and Twitter. This is not about, ‘You have to have a PC and you have to do it yourself.’ The idea is you go to play the game and there’s a menu option and you click on it and there’s just a bunch of stuff for you to download. You click on the stuff you want and you start playing the game with these new mods. We want it to be a really streamlined, fun experience.”
This is all part of an effort by Bethesda to ensure that console players get close to an identical experience with Fallout 4 mods that PC users currently enjoy. By hosting the content directly on the BethesdaNet servers, the developer hopes to offer many of the same mods across all platforms, so console owners shouldn’t expect to see much of a watered down selection of Fallout 4 mods as they become available soon on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
Gamers can take a look at the official list of existing PC mods that players have made for Fallout 4 so far. This should help give fans an idea of what will be heading to consoles in the coming weeks.
