Bates Motel fans are still trying to process that creepy, heartbreaking, and scary Season 4 finale, but with Season 5 so far in the future, there’s nothing to do but wonder how the show will go on without one of the most important characters.
As many Bates Motel fans know, Norman Bates finally succeeded in transitioning into the full-fledged Psycho version of himself at the end of Season 4, when he shockingly killed his mother, Norma Bates, in a murder/suicide gone wrong.
According to Ecumenical News , after Norma’s death, fans watched as Norman completely lost his mind . He even dug up her grave and stole her body to take it home with him. Norman is now totally living inside the walls of his own mind, and seeing his dead mother as if she were still alive. So, what does this mean for the show’s fifth and final season?
Bates Motel showrunner Kerry Ehrin says that while Norman’s mental state will definitely be seen during Season 5, the remaining episodes will be about the “sad, beautiful, co-dependent love story between a mother and a son.”
It looks likes viewers haven’t seen the last of Norma Bates after all. Just because she’s dead, doesn’t mean she’s gone, and Norman will most definitely keep her alive inside of him.
“That obsession with Norma will absolutely drive the final season and really keep her exactly in the center of it, not only for Norman but for Romero.”
Bates Motel fans are thrilled that they will still get to see actress Vera Farmiga, who plays Norma Bates, even though it will be an adjustment to see her in her new, modified role for Season 5.
Of course, Season 5 wouldn’t be complete without closing out the storylines of the supporting characters. This means that viewers will likely get to see how things end up for Norman’s brother, Dylan, his girlfriend Emma, and Sheriff Romero, who has sworn to prove that Norman killed his mother .
Currently, Dylan and Emma have moved to Seattle, and Dylan has not yet learned about his mother’s shocking death. When he does, it should be a really emotional moment for the character. Sheriff Romero also finds himself in a tight spot. He’s been arrested for his connection to Bob Paris’ crimes, and although he is guilty of many things, he’s basically a good guy. Unfortunately, things are not looking good for Alex in Season 5.
Meanwhile, Bates Motel fans will be in for a treat when the character of Marion Crane is introduced. Fans who have watched the movie Psycho , which the TV series is based on, know that Marion is a huge part of the story and is the woman that Norman kills in that iconic shower scene beloved by many horror fans.
As previously reported by the Inquisitr, it is likely that viewers will get to see Bates Motel‘s spin on the shower murder scene, as well as a twist leading up to the eventsof Psycho, where Norman Bates is finally caught and arrested after years of murder.
“We wanted the final season to allow us to do our version of the Psycho lore. We will be colliding with certain events in the narrative of the film, but it would be boring to just recreate Psycho .”
One thing is for sure, and that is that Bates Motel is going to be completely crazy in Season 5, and fans will most likely love every minute of the final season of the creepy A&E series.
What are your thoughts on the Bates Motel Season 5 changes? Are you excited to see Marion Crane?
