CBS is the latest network to reveal sneak preview synopsis videos of upcoming CBS 2016 shows and even a few teasers for 2017. Among the offerings of new shows are new sitcoms for former sitcom stars Joel McHale, Kevin James, and Matt LeBlanc. Also returning to the small screen is Katherine Heigl who is appearing in yet another new show as a feisty but smart, blonde, professional woman.
Unlike the other networks, CBS 2016 shows are shying away from supernatural storylines, comic book characters, and sci-fi fare with the exception of a proposed reboot of Star Trek . Also being rebooted this season is a new version of the tinkerer (and a much younger) MacGyver that is starring Lucus Till and former CSI star George Eads.
CBS is also offering Training Day , loosely based on the movie, and Bull , a show that is also loosely based on Dr. Phil McGraw.
Among the new CBS 2016 shows for the fall are:
Bull Stars: Michael Weatherly Description : This story of Dr. Jason Bull is a drama inspired by the early career of Dr. Phil McGraw. Bull is the founder of a profitable trial consulting firm. CBS says that the character is “brilliant, brash and charming” and “combines psychology, human intuition and high tech data to learn what makes jurors, attorneys, witnesses and the accused, tick.” McGraw, his son Jay McGraw, and Steven Spielberg are among the show’s producers.
The Great Indoors Stars: Joel McHale Description: McHale plays Jack, a former adventure reporter for an outdoor magazine who becomes a desk-bound boss to a bunch of writers much younger than himself. CBS says that if Jack is “patient, he may be able to show these kids that the outside world is much more than something on a screen… if he doesn’t beat them with their selfie-sticks first.”
Kevin Can Wait Stars: Kevin James and Erinn Hayes Description: James plays a newly retired police officer who looks forward to spending quality time with his family (a wife and three children). Only he realizes that his family life is tougher than his previous work. His oldest daughter is dropping out of college so she can support her unemployed fiancé, his middle daughter is having trouble at school, and his son is a hypochondriac.
MacGyver Stars: Lucas Till, George Eads Description: This show is a reimagining of the classic series that stars Till as the 20-something Angus “Mac” MacGyver who uses his extraordinary talent of problem-solving skills to get out of binds and save the lives of others. CBS says that MacGyver will escape “perilous situations with nothing but a paperclip, his trusty Swiss Army knife and his wit.”
Man With A Plan Stars: Matt LeBlanc Description: LeBlanc plays a contractor husband who begins to spend more time at home when his wife goes back to work. It is here that he learns the truth about his kids – they aren’t the little angels he thought they were. Pre-teen daughter Kate is a “master manipulator, middle son Teddy is preoccupied and the youngest, Emme, is nervous about attending kindergarten.”
