WWE News: Emma Joining Growing List Of Injured WWE Superstars?

The news from an injury standpoint has not been very favorable this Monday. First, it was Kevin Owens , and now, there are reports that Emma has been bitten by the injury bug as well.

Emma is in the beginning stages of her most significant run as a WWE superstar, but she may have fallen victim to yet another setback during one of WWE’s non-televised live events. WWE released the following statement confirming the injury , as reported on by Cageside Seats .

“WWE.com has learned that Superstar Emma suffered a back injury last Sunday night during a WWE live event and is currently undergoing tests to determine the extent of her injuries.”

Owens’ injury occurred during a singles match with Sami Zayn this past Sunday in Columbia, South Carolina, while Emma appeared to injure her back last Sunday (May 8) in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. Emma was competing in a tag-team match alongside newcomer Dana Brooke against the team of Becky Lynch and Sasha Banks. If it matters, the babyface team of Becky and Sasha went over in the match.

If you recall, Emma was still at the next night’s episode of Monday Night RAW last week, but she was only seen in a backstage segment with Becky. Emma then introduced the WWE Universe to Dana, who attacked Becky from behind. The heel team of Emma and Dana declared that EnD (Emma ‘N Dana) were reunited after spending a lot of time together in NXT working in partnership. Then, on SmackDown , Dana faced Becky in a one-on-one singles match, with Emma accompanying her to ringside. Her only form of action during that match was a poke to the eye of the Irish Lasskicker, which enabled Dana to get the victory, her first ever on the main roster.

Emma was kept out of the ring for the remainder of the week, including house shows. Dana, meanwhile, competed in a six-woman tag team match on the live event circuit. She teamed with Lana and Eva Marie against the team of Becky, Paige, and Sasha Banks, with the babyfaces going over. It appears that Emma won’t be allowed to do anything physical until the results of the tests are known. However, it is still possible she’ll appear on programming this week, either in the form of another backstage promo or alongside Dana if she is booked to wrestle.

Last week, the Inquisitr reported that Emma’s career was resurrected , largely by her own doing. After a short stint as Santino’s comedic sidekick, she found herself in trouble with the law after a shoplifting incident at a Wal-Mart. She was briefly released from the company before being reinstated just a few hours later. Since that mysterious day in June of 2014, Emma re-dedicated herself to the sport and basically re-packaged herself as the new confident bad girl heel that’s presented today.

Emma re-debuted in the WWE after the whole Divas Revolution was booked as taking the company by storm. But just by looking at the depth chart in the division, it seemed clear she was still behind the likes of Charlotte, Becky, Sasha, Paige, Natalya, and others in the pecking order. But her new-found commitment and persona have won over many WWE officials, so much so to the point that there were discussions involving her winning the WWE Women’s Championship in the near future.

Until that happens, WWE was packaging Emma with Dana initially as a way to replace Naomi and Tamina who are both out with injury. Their double-teaming on television would eventually lead to Becky calling on a partner to even the odds to set up the payoff match in tag team fashion. That partner is/was expected to be Sasha Banks, and that feud would eventually catapult Sasha into the championship picture, where she’d be the one to dethrone Charlotte, most likely at SummerSlam .

Another injury is not what the women’s division or the entire WWE needs at this point, so Emma’s status will certainly be worth monitoring.
