Nathan Fillion is available for hire, and he’s letting casting directors know in case they haven’t heard the news. On the heels of the announcement that Fillion’s longtime ABC crime drama, Castle , has been canceled, the actor took to Twitter to tell “every director” in Hollywood that he has an opening in his schedule .
Dear Every Director, It appears I have an opening in my schedule.

Nathan also appealed to fans, asking them to be open to seeing him play a role besides the mystery writer turned police consultant.
Dear Fans, In whatever project I do next, loudly notice how unlike Castle and fresh and versatile I am. Thanks.

Of course, longtime Nathan Fillion fans know he’s versatile. In fact, Fillion’s fanbase was an integral part of getting Castle a loyal following in the show’s early days. Nathan Fillion garnered a cult following from his role as Captain Malcolm Reynolds on the short-lived Joss Whedon sci-fi drama, Firefly. Fillion’s lengthy acting resume also includes 60 episodes of the sitcom Two Guys, A Girl, and a Pizza Place , and a recurring role on Buffy the Vampire Slayer . Nathan also played a doc on Desperate Housewives , a spy smasher on Justice League , and he’s even voiced a video game character in Halo .

While Nathan Fillion joked about being typecast as Castle , on a more serious note, the actor thanked his longtime castmates and crew for 8 years on the ABC drama, admitting that “all things must end.”
All things must end. It has been an honor working with the men and women of Castle. I am truly amazed at what we’ve done. Thank you all.

Castle still had a big following before ABC axed it, but fans recently found out that Fillion’s co-star, Stana Katic, wouldn’t be coming back after Season 8. Still, the remaining cast and crew had high hopes that the show would return to ABC’s lineup for a ninth season next fall. Until Castle became a victim of network TV’s cancellation bloodbath last Thursday, that is.
Stana Katic joined Nathan Fillion in thanking the show’s crew as well as its loyal fan base for eight wonderful years. The actress penned a handwritten note , which she then posted to Twitter.
“Your devotion to our show has carried us for these unforgettable 8 seasons,” Katic tweeted. “I’m lucky to have met and worked with and for the lot of you. I will always be grateful. BIG HUG.”
After Stana’s ousting was announced, Nathan Fillion inked a deal to return for a ninth season, but the caveat was if there was a ninth season. TV Line posted that ABC was leaning toward bringing the Nathan Fillion-led procedural back for an abbreviated season, but instead networks waited until the last possible minute to announce that Fillion’s show wouldn’t be coming back at all.
Of course, it would have been difficult to imagine Fillion’s Castle without his beloved Kate Beckett (Katic) by his side, as their romance has been a big part of the show for most of the series’ run. Last fall, executive producer Alexi Hawley even told TV Guide producers they were committed to keeping the TV crime-solving couple together .
“We’re committed to this relationship the same way they’re committed to this relationship,” Hawley said. “There’s room for some conflict and drama, but at the end of the day they’re both way too in love to let it go or walk away. Relationships are hard sometimes, but if you’re committed to it, you stick it out.”
While Nathan Fillion was willing to stick it out, ABC wasn’t.
