Donald J. Trump has turned to Twitter once more, this time coining a nickname for Bernie Sanders. In a new tweet that appeared on Trump’s Twitter account on May 11, tweeted at 6:26 a.m. ET, Trump wrote that while he didn’t want to come against “Crazy Bernie Sanders” too hard at the moment, Trump admitted he loved what “Crazy Bernie” was doing to “Crooked Hillary,” using a nickname that Trump has been throwing around for Hillary Clinton.
Writing that the time for “Crazy Bernie” will come, Trump has caused the term “Crazy Bernie” to become a trending topic on Twitter. However, “Crazy Bernie” supporters aren’t standing for Trump’s new nickname and are turning Trump’s nickname around, using it as a way to disparage Trump and his beliefs.
I don’t want to hit Crazy Bernie Sanders too hard yet because I love watching what he is doing to Crooked Hillary. His time will come!

One of the most popular replies to Trump’s tweet is a meme that supports Trump. After Donald dubbed his opponent “Crazy Bernie,” the meme shows Trump’s photo on the left-hand side with the promises that state Trump will build a wall smaller than the Great Wall of China, writing that folks would be crazy to believe Trump. On the left-hand side of the meme, Sanders’ promises of free college, healthcare, and food without an increase in taxes are met with open belief, so says the tongue-in-cheek meme.
However, while Trump supporters are out in full force, Sanders supporters are hitting back at Trump by stating the reasons they support “Crazy Bernie” and plan to support him all the way to the White House.
“This megalomaniac gets up pretty early, just to hear himself speak. ‘Crazy Bernie’ is now trending on Twitter. #?BernieOrBust “
In an earlier tweet, Trump also tried out his new “Crazy Bernie” nickname by writing that after the “big wins in West Virginia and Nebraska,” the woman whom Trump dubbed “Crooked Hillary” was looking bad when faced with her “Crazy Bernie” opponent.
Meanwhile, Twitter reports that nearly 5,000 tweets have come in under the “ Crazy Bernie” topic.
On Facebook, the “Crazy Bernie” nickname is getting a big reaction as well, both from those who support Trump and those who look forward to a President Sanders without the crazy nickname. Some of those Sanders supporters are noting that while Trump may think Sanders is “Crazy Bernie,” others view the presidential hopeful as one who’s crazy like a fox – crazy enough to think he can enact real change in America.
“Crazy Bernie’s platform is supported by a majority of the American people; left, center and right.”
As noted by Facebook user Ryan Arnold , “Crazy Bernie” isn’t the first nickname Trump has had for his opponents. Trump has famously called others derisive names, whether claiming a person didn’t have enough energy, was a liar, was short in stature, or didn’t have a high level of trust in Trump’s point of view. Some folks note that by Trump coming up with easy-to-remember nicknames like “Crazy Bernie,” Trump is seeking to affect the state of mind that others have when viewing folks like Sanders.
“Donald Trump & The Art of Insult segment on MSNBC is pure gold. Lyin’ Ted, Crooked Hillary, Crazy Bernie, Little Marco, Low Energy Jeb. Crooked Hillary will become a household nickname in the near future. This guy knows exactly what he’s doing.”

For the most part, the “Crazy Bernie” moniker is being turned on its head and used in a positive manner by Sanders supporters.
“LOL poor poor Donald Trump tried to insult using ‘Crazy Bernie’ lol but the people just embrace it. CRAZY wanting change right?”
In the below video interview where Trump called into Fox News , Trump can be heard calling Sanders “Crazy Bernie” more than once, saying that Trump calls Sanders “Crazy Bernie” because Trump claimed Sanders wasn’t very good. Besides dubbing Sanders “Crazy Bernie,” Trump was asked if he had a nickname yet for Ben Sasse. Trump said no, but called Sasse a nasty guy — therefore, look for “Nasty Sasse” to show up on Twitter feeds soon.
