‘Marvel’s Agents Of SHIELD’ Recap — Sex, Hellfire, Addiction & Inhumans

Published on: April 27, 2016 at 3:05 AM

With Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. just three weeks away from its season finale, Fitz and Simmons finally take their relationship to the next (physical) level. Of course, “Fitzsimmons” and the rest of the team are primarily focused on rescuing Daisy, who has been infected by Hive, who is building an Inhuman army. The SHIELD team must find and stop them not only to save Daisy, but to save humanity.

The scientists/lovers are back in the field, hoping to find a cure for Hive’s infection. James is given new Gambit-like powers by Hive and evolves into Hellfire. Lincoln is fitted with a suicide vest. And Hive shows his powers of manipulation by appealing to Daisy through Grant Ward’s memories and to Simmons through astronaut Will’s memories.

It seems clear that the season is building towards Team SHIELD vs. Team Hive. While the former seems to be unraveling, the latter are getting stronger with each episode. The following contains spoilers for the episode of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (Season 3, Episode 18, “The Singularity”) that aired April 26 on ABC.

Daisy and Hive

As explained early in the episode by our scientist friends, the infection suffered at the hands of Hive may not feel like suffering at all. In fact, it’s pure ecstasy for the infected: not unlike a drug addiction. When Daisy rests her head comfortably on Hive’s shoulder, it’s clear the infection takes Stockholm syndrome to a whole new level.

While there’s no indication that Hive and Daisy consummate the reunion of Grant Ward and Skye Johnson, she is his right-hand-woman as he shows the first members of his new Inhuman army their new headquarters: a town he purchased with Gideon Malick’s wealth.

RELATED REPORTS BY THE INQUISITR

Does Lincoln belong?

Proving both his loyalty to the cause and his friend Daisy, Lincoln is forced to step up in a big way as the team tries to save the future of mankind from Hive. Given his susceptibility to a potential Hive infection, he is convinced to put on what amounts to a suicide vest. If Lincoln becomes infected, Melinda May will make sure he dies.

SHIELD tracks down Alisha, one of the Inhumans that they know Hive is after. She has the ability to make and control replicas of herself. Lincoln almost dies trying to get her to reveal where Hive has taken Daisy, but May and Coulson are there to save him. This should prove to Lincoln that S.H.I.E.L.D. is his new family.

Fitz + Simmons = Fitzsimmons?

Scientists need love, too, but Fitz and Simmons have tasks to complete as SHIELD agents before they can finally express their love to each other in the bedroom. They must try to convince Dr. Radcliffe to help them. He’s been performing human being enhancement procedures in Romania. Just when it looks like the doctor will work with them, Hive and Daisy show up. While Hive uses Will’s memories to try to wear down Simmons, Daisy threatens Fitz’s life, revealing that someone from SHIELD is going to die if he doesn’t.

The bad guys ultimately escape with Dr. Radcliffe. However, Fitz and Simmons finally have sex, so some things seem to be going in the right direction.

Next week

Hive has already recruited Daisy, Alisha, Hellfire and a “mad scientist” of sorts. Along with his own powers and the Gideon Malick fortune, Hive has the very beginnings of his army. The following teaser/trailer has been released for next week’s episode, entitled “Failed Experiments.”
