While the Disney Channel announced last month that they would be conducting a large casting call for the third sequel to the High School Musical franchise, it wasn’t until this week that the company posted instructions on how teens can audition for High School Musical 4 . In-person auditions are highly desired, but for those unable to attend in person, Disney has provided a way for anyone between the ages of 14 and 17 to apply through the Disney Applause App.
The in-person open call auditions will take place on Sunday, May 15, at the Anaheim Convention Center, located at 800 W. Katella Avenue in Anaheim, California, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. noon. Any teenager between the ages of 14 and 17 are encouraged to apply but must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Each applicant must provide a photo upon registration. (Don’t worry, about getting a professional head shot as snapshots will be permitted.) During the application process for High School Musical 4 , each applicant will receive a sample scene to be read during the audition.

The Disney Channel stresses that this is a real audition, not a contest, and there is no guarantee of employment just because one auditions for High School Musical 4 . And while there is no fee to audition in person, there is a $15 parking fee at the Convention Center. Other nearby parking is available as well.
For the many teens unable to attend the open call auditions, they may submit a video audition by using the Disney Applause App which features a couple of videos on audition tips from Paris Berelc ( Lab Rats: Elite Force ) and Jacob Bertrand ( Kirby Buckets ). The online auditions will be accepted through May 2.
It’s been 10 years since the first High School Musical aired on the Disney Channel, but the recent re-broadcast of the movie proves that the films are still as popular as ever among pre-teens and teens. High School Musical 4 will continue the tradition of the first film, hiring an all-new cast of yet unknowns. Though much is not known about the new sequel, including any information if it will feature any cameos of the original cast, it is known that the new story will not only follow the East High Wildcats, but also their revivals from across town, the West High Knights.

High School Musical 4 will be directed and choreographed by Jeffrey Hornaday who also worked on Disney Channel’s Teen Beach Movie and Teen Beach 2 . The script will once again be written by Dan Berendsen and Peter Barsocchini who have written the scripts for the first three HSM movies. Bill Borden and Barry Rosenbush will also return to serve at executive producers of the new movie.
In February, the Disney Channel held a special 10-year reunion of the original High School Musical cast (Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Lucas Grabeel, Corbin Bleu and Monique Coleman) minus Zac Efron (Efron did supply a short greeting for the special) along with the rebroadcast of the film. The original High School Musical launched the careers of these six while giving the network its highest ratings ever up until that point: 7.7 million total viewers. The rating more than doubled when High School Musical 2 premiered in 2007 with 18.6 million viewers. In 2008, Disney decided to place High School Musical 3 in movie theaters instead of the small screen, a decision that was worthwhile since it made $250 million in box office sales and then it was shown on the network as well.
