Chelsea Clinton Does Not Rule Out Run For Office

It is possible that Chelsea Clinton could one day be the third child to follow a parent to the office of the presidency. To do that, however, Clinton would need to start her political career, something she recently indicated could happen.

Though Clinton was non-committal, when asked by Vogue magazine recently if she would follow in her parents footsteps, the former first daughter didn’t say no.

“Before my mom’s campaign I would have said no,” Clinton said. “And now I don’t know. . .”

The New York Times reports that the daughter of former U.S. President Bill Clinton and Secretary of State Hilary Rodham Clinton sits on the board of her father’s Clinton Foundation, but has considered that her fame, which stems from being the daughter of America’s best known political couple, is not something to shy away from.

“I have voted in every election that I have been qualified to vote in since I turned eighteen,” Clinton continued. “I believe that engaging in the political process is part of being a good person. And I certainly believe that part of helping to build a better world is ensuring that we have political leaders who are committed to that premise. So if there were to be a point where it was something I felt called to do and I didn’t think there was someone who was sufficiently committed to building a healthier, more just, more equitable, more productive world? Then that would be a question I’d have to ask and answer.”

ABC News reports that President Clinton started his political career even earlier than Chelsea, holding office as Arkansas attorney general from age 31. Hilary on the other hand held her first public office at age 54.

Whether or not Chelsea Clinton follows them to holding some of the nation’s most powerful post remains to be seen.
