An orphaned baby kangaroo and an orphaned baby wombat taken in by an Australia animal rescue center are apparently quite taken with each other. The duo are inseparable, and even share a custom-designed pouch.
Anzac is a 5-month-old kangaroo, taken in by the Wild about Wildlife Rescue Centre near Melbourne, Australia, after he was discovered abandoned in the wild. At the rescue center, Anzac made fast friends with Peggy the wombat, and the two quickly became inseparable. According to The Mercury, the two marsupials get on so famously due to similar movements and heart rhythms.
Awww…
“There are lots of baby animals about at the moment, and they are orphaned for a range of reasons,” shelter employee Lisa Milligan said of the pair. She also said that Anzac and Peggy are developing their own personalities – Anzac is a highly social animal, while Peggy is boisterous and lively.
The pair will eventually outgrow each other, with Peggy growing to weigh roughly 65 pounds and Anzac becoming considerably heavier and taller when he reaches full maturity. According to NY Daily , the shelter attempts to pair each animal with a “partner” to ease release back into the wild. Anzac has already been partnered with another kangaroo named “Poppy,” though they lament that Peggy “has only been in the shelter a few weeks, and we haven’t found a partner for her.”
The shelter is currently petitioning other shelters for a potential companion for the orphaned wombat.
Prepare yourself for some disgustingly adorable photos.
