‘Captain America: Civil War’ And ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Directors Confirm To Stay Seated After Movie

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is known for its post-credit scenes, or stingers, as they are called, and Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War will continue the tradition, as they are connected with the pieces of the shared universe. Some Marvel movie stingers wind up being two-part teases to tickle your funny bone, or hint at future movies.

Captain America: Civil War is said to “maybe” have three post-credit scenes , per the Russo brothers in an interview with Forbes , as reported by Screen Rant . So it may behoove Marvel movie fans to stay all the way until the last credit has rolled. Will they address the end of the Avengers team here?

In previous interviews, the Russo brothers discussed a “through line” that would lead Civil War towards Avengers: Infinity War in some fashion. Perhaps the teaser(s) will be a part of this “through line”?

The term “through line” was defined to allow an actor to not just know of the character’s actions and their objectives, but also be aware of the character’s through line by interconnecting character objectives in the greater narrative.

This was cited by Wikipedia and, believe it or not, used the original Star Wars trilogy as an example.

“We see starting with A New Hope and running through to the end of the Return of the Jedi of the Emperor consolidating more and more power into his own hands and that of his right-hand man, Darth Vader.”

And there appears to be another character gaining power the Marvel Cinematic Universe between Captain America: Winter Soldier , the previous Avengers films, Guardians of the Galaxy , Civil War , and Avengers: Infinity War — the Mad Titan, Thanos.

Joe Russo stated the following.

“We wanted Winter Soldier , Civil War , and the Infinity War films to have a strong through line. We look at this movie as setting the stage for Infinity War , how it starts and what condition everybody is in.”

A Captain America: Civil War end-credits question was asked if it would include Doctor Strange, whose movie by the same name, starring Sherlock actor Benedict Cumberbatch, is coming soon. However, no information, even the true number of end-credit scenes, have been confirmed. It seems the Russos were entertaining a third stinger as a possibility.

“We can’t say who is going to be in it but we can say that there certainly could be one, or two, maybe three. We can confirm that you should stay sat in your seats when the movie is done.”

So you may want to whisper into your friend’s ear at the theater about a possible third end-credits scene before he/she takes off.

One may even speculate that these stingers could have some kind of tie-in with what the Russo brothers had talked about in past interviews. For one, the tight-knit bond between Captain America and Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier could be expanded upon. In the Marvel Civil War comic book series, Bucky took on the mantle, post-Civil War, to become the new Captain America.

The Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War directors also teased a bit about the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as they mentioned how diverse the storytelling can be. It seems that the possibilities are endless.

“The beauty of superhero movies is that there are always more stories to tell. You can go anywhere with the genre.”

With that said, this does make one wonder what the content of those post-credit scenes may entail and considering the aforementioned quote, it’s pretty nebulous at this point. Although the disassembling of the Avengers is likely to have an impact when it comes to the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Captain America: Civil War opens in theaters on May 6, 2016, and Avengers: Infinity War – Part One and Part Two is scheduled for 2018 and 2019. Hopefully, the third and fourth Avengers films will provide an action-packed climax to usher in a new Marvel phase.
