We’re just under three weeks away from WrestleMania 32 , and while it’s been confirmed that The Rock will be on the show, his role is still pretty much unknown.
Ever since The Rock announced that he would be appearing at WrestleMania 32 several months ago, many have thought that he would be in Roman Reigns’ corner during his match with Triple H, with the idea being that “The Great One” would endorse Reigns as the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion in the show’s main-event.
As of right now, it doesn’t look like there will be anyone else involved in the Roman Reigns vs. Triple H match. However, that all could change in the next two weeks.
According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer , WWE hasn’t officially decided what The Rock will be doing on the show, mainly because “The People’s Champ” will end up doing whatever he wants to do on the show. He still hasn’t told WWE exactly what that will be.
“As for The Rock, I couldn’t tell you (what his role will be). I just know that, as of two-weeks ago, (WWE) did not have a decision because he’s calling his own shot, he’s doing whatever he wants, and he hasn’t told them yet. But, he may have told them since then. I just haven’t heard. So, I don’t know what The Rock is doing.”
The most logical role for The Rock at WrestleMania 32 is the aforementioned main event scenario, where he corners Roman Reigns in the WWE World Heavyweight Championship match. The only thing that may cause both WWE and The Rock to shy away from that scenario is the fact that they’ve gone with the idea of him endorsing Reigns before, and it backfired horribly. In their minds, trying it again may not be the best idea.
There’s always a chance of some sort of talking segment in the ring involving The Rock and other WWE legends like Mick Foley and “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, who are both scheduled to be on the show.
Shawn Michaels is also scheduled to be on the show, and he’s expected to be named the guest referee in the Triple H vs. Reigns match. But, according to Meltzer, “HBK” may end up doing something else, although he wasn’t specific on what that something else will be.
One of the few dream matches that has never taken place is Shawn Michaels vs. The Rock, and unfortunately, due to Michaels being unwilling to come out of retirement, it’ll never happen. But, with this being the biggest WrestleMania of all-time, WWE could have an in-ring confrontation between Michaels and The Rock at the beginning of the show, similar to the brief confrontation between Hulk Hogan and Steve Austin that opened WrestleMania 30 .
But if The Rock were to be involved in one of the matches on the card, the only match that really makes sense for him is Reigns vs. Triple H. Also, if Michaels ends up being the guest referee during that match, then we could see a Rock vs. Michaels confrontation there as well.
WrestleMania 32 will be a four-hour event, and there are probably only three matches — Dean Ambrose vs. Brock Lesnar, Undertaker vs. Shane McMahon, Triple H vs. Roman Reigns — that will go longer than 20 minutes. There will be plenty of time for The Rock to have a segment of his own if that’s what he wants to do.
If The Rock decides that he does want to be involved in the show’s main event, then expect that to be announced within the next two weeks.
