George Martin, the man who invested in music legends The Beatles has passed away at the age of 90.
Sir George Martin was a major influence on the legendary band. Apart from being a music producer, he was also a musician, arranger, conductor, composer, and audio engineer. He is among the most-popular record producers in the world. He recorded several hit singles in both the Great Britain and United states.
Sir George Martin was the producer behind the majority of The Beatles’ albums, including several mega hits like “How Do You Do It,” “Love Me Do,” and “Please Please Me.” He has also contributed in movie soundtracks like Adagietto for Harmonica and Strings , Theme One , and Magic Carpet for Tommy Reilly, BBC Radio, and The Dakotas, respectively.
The Richest reports that the total net worth of George Martin is about $410 millions. The charismatic multimillionaire actually “made” The Beatles, according to Will Gompertz of BBC News .
“Sir George Martin was more than simply the ‘fifth Beatle’, in somuch as there probably wouldn’t be any Beatles without him. He made them.”
Sir George Martin regarded his major influences in Jonny Dankworth and Cole Porter. He studied oboe and piano before working for BBC’s music department and later for EMI.
Sir Martin has also produced novelty records and comedy together with Spike Milligan and Peter Sellers. His elaborate career saw him work in movies, television, music, and live performances. He has also been involved in many senior executive positions in the music world.
George Martin started playing the piano before his seventh birthday. He joined the Royal Navy in 1943 at the mere age of 17. Luckily for him, he did not have to see any combat time.
He parted ways with the military in 1947. Martin studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and started working in the classical music department at the BBC after graduation. Immediately after, Martin began working for EMI and Parlophone Records, and his main focuses were classical and Baroque music.
Sir Martin was also nominated for Academy Awards for 1964’s A Hard Day’s Night . He has won multiple Grammy awards, including Best Contemporary Album for producing Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band in 1967 and Album of the Year for the same record.
According the Guardain , his reputation stretched well beyond his 23 U.S. and 30 UK No. 1 singles.
“George Martin made us what we were in the studio,” Lennon once said. “He helped us develop a language to talk to other musicians.”
This grave news was confirmed by Adam Sharp, who represented both Martin and his son Giles.
He broke down the news in a statement, adding, “In a career that spanned seven decades he was recognised globally as one of music’s most creative talents and a gentleman to the end. The family ask that their privacy be respected at this time.”
Paying homage to the legend, Nigel Godrich, the producer of one-time Parlophone act Radiohead, was emotional.
“my hero: The definitive record producer.. such a gentleman and was so kind to me. He did it all first … and best.”
Producer and performer Mark Ronson said, “We will never stop living in the world you helped create.”
