For years now on the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills , Kim Richards ‘ alcohol and sobriety struggles have been a major focal point, and for the star’s youngest daughter, Kimberly Jackson, being caught in the middle of her mother’s publicly aired behavior has been “devastating.”

According to Enstarz , during the premiere episode of Lifetime’s new reality show, The Mother/Daughter Experiment , Richards and daughter Jackson reveal how Richards being on the Bravo reality series has impacted their lives.

“It’s been a roller-coaster ride,” Richards said, according to a report by PEOPLE Magazine . “Being part of the Housewives has been an experience. It really hurt me because I was struggling with certain things.”

During a separate interview Jackson explained her emotional and physical state and how it affects her, which includes a mother-daughter role reversal as Kim, 51, spiraled out of control with painkillers and alcohol during RHOBH, states Daily Mail .

“I feel like I’m her caretaker because she’s fragile physically and emotionally. And it does overwhelm me.”

OK! Magazine also reports that the RHOBHstar revealed that being on TV has changed the relationship between her and Kimberly, 21.

While battling addiction and seeking treatment on numerous occasions, the reality star hit rock bottom when she was arrested twice last year, once for shoplifting and once for public intoxication.

Also, during a private session, Kim Richards watched her daughter talk on film about being overwhelmed and having to become her caretaker, with Kim responding by saying, “I need to remember how my decisions do affect Kimberly.”

Jackson continued on during the private session, saying that because of all the negativity surrounding her mother’s reality persona, along with all the bad reactions from fans and viewers, she felt “like somebody needs to protect her.”

During a group therapy session, Kim Richards implicated that there was more to her issues than just alcohol, sharing with the group, “There is something that’s going on at home that has nothing [to do with this] … There’s other things.”

Along with the arrests and struggling with addiction, Kim has also been in a tough relationship with her sister, fellow RHOBH star Kyle Richards, 47 — a relationship that some believe needs a lot of therapy to fix, an opinion that former RHOBH star Adrienne Maloof agrees with. According to Maloof’s Bravo blog, Kim and her sister need “intensive therapy.”

In the first episode of the Mother/Daughter Experiment,Kim recognized that it will be hard for her daughter, Kimberly, to watch her “getting beat up by some of the girls” on the Bravoshow. “But you know what I get through it. I do. And I’m okay,” the reality star said.

Also, in the one-on-one with therapist Debbie Magids, Kim burst into tears as she announced that it would be completely devastating to think that she had let down any of her kids in any way.

With the Lifetime series will revolve around the broken relationships between six mother and daughter pairs and includes having them actively engage in therapy sessions to try and help rebuild and repair their relationships.

Kim Richards will be on the show with daughter Kimberly, but the RHOBH star also has other children. Kimberly is Kim’s daughter from a former relationship with John Jackson, but she also has another daughter, named Brooke, from her marriage to the late Monty Brinson, a third daughter, Whitney, and a son named Chad from her second marriage to Gregg Davis.

The Mother/Daughter Experiment airs Tuesday nights on Lifetime.
