For five long years, fans of USA Network’s Suits have been rooting for Harvey (Gabriel Macht) and Donna (Sarah Rafferty) to finally get together. The duo always had a will they or won’t they connection going on, which drove the viewers insane. Unfortunately, Rafferty, in a recent interview, claimed that it will never be romantic between Harvey and Donna.
Speaking to Digital Spy , the Suits Season 5 star insisted that Harvey and Donna will never get together. While she admitted that there is definite tension between them, she pointed out that they were confused of how they felt towards one another.
“I don’t think either of them understand what kind of love they have for each other – they don’t know whether it’s a brother / sister thing [or something else].”
Fans of Suits were given a glimpse of Harvey and Donna’s earlier relationship through several flashbacks in Seasons 4 and 5. The two shared quite a history together, working together at the DA’s office before Pearson Specter Litt. At one point, viewers thought that Harvey and Donna will eventually become a couple after their confrontation, in which Harvey admitted that he loved her.
In an interview with TV Line , Suits executive producer Aaron Korsh explained that while Harvey cares for Donna more than anybody else, she was just not the one for him. She eventually grew tired of waiting for him and realized that it will never work between the two of them. The episode ended with Donna deciding to work for Louis (Rick Hoffman).
“If you ask me, yes, she wants a relationship with him. If he really, truly doesn’t want a relationship with her, then she would accept it, but … he won’t even talk about it with her,” Korsh explained.
In the premiere of Suits Season 5 , viewers saw Harvey having a difficult time coping without Donna by his side. He even decided to go to a shrink to help him resolve his issues.
Sarah Rafferty, however, explained that Donna is not the type of person who will wait around for Harvey to get his act together. The actress shared that while Donna cares for Harvey, she no longer feels an attraction towards him.
“He may never come around and she’s not going to wait around — she’s definitely not sad and sitting at home with Ben & Jerry’s! She’s out and about — moving on!”
Rafferty, however, conceded that she could be wrong and Harvey and Donna may still end up being together in the Suits series finale.
“I mean, I’ll never say never — it could be amazing and we have great writers who could create that scenario for us. But it’s not something that I see happening. Though I could be wrong — I’ve been wrong before!”
In the event that Harvey and Donna’s friendship will truly not lead to anything else, Suits fans suspect that he will eventually end up with Scottie (Abigail Spencer).
In Suits Season 5, Episode 13, titled “One Two Punch,” Harvey tried to reconnect with his ex-girlfriend, even telling her about how he has been going to therapy. For the first time, Harvey was able to pour out his feelings and talk about the reason for the break up.
“Our relationship did not end because of Mike. It ended because I wasn’t ready to confront what was wrong with me and I don’t know if I will ever be ready but I’ve been seeing someone and I want to tell you about it. If I ever get out of this thing one piece, I wanted to know if it’s okay to call you again.”
While Scottie said that Harvey can call her anytime, she explained that she did not know where she will be when all of this over.
Suits Season 5 airs Wednesdays on USA Network.
