Family Christian’s Edifi is not your typical Angry Birds toting tablet, that’s because it is the first device of its kind to be offered with software geared directly towards people of the Christian faith.
Being billed as the world’s first Christian tablet the Android-based device features a resistive touch screen with 480 x 800 pixels of resolution and comes equipped with 512MB of RAM and 8GB of expandable storage.
Brian Honorable, a technology supervisor at Family Christian tells Fox News :
“We wanted to be able to offer our customers the ability to use our Holy Bible application, which has 27 different English translations of the Bible. We basically wanted to spread God’s word through a tablet.”
Not only does the tablet feature an e-reader for bible based reading it also provides movie-watching capabilities, offers Christian radio stations over Wi-Fi and come with a “safe search” web browser” which makes it ideal for the entire family.
While the first version of the churches tablet is now just becoming a reality they are already working on a tablet that offers a higher display resolution. To really compete in the market place the company will also need to develop a capacitive touch screen based device for ease of use.
The current Family Christian Edifi tablet arrived at market last month and comes equipped with earphones, a wall charter, a removable stand, a protective cover, stylus and a tablet pouch.
The world’s first Christian tablet can be purchased on the Family Christian website or at any of the organizations 300 stores around the United States.
When we hear the world “Tablet” in historical references to Christianity this typically isn’t what we think of.
