It’s official: Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards) is now a superhero. It may have taken four seasons, but in the last episode of Arrow , everyone’s favorite computer genius finally received a codename.
Fans have speculated that Felicity would eventually become known as Oracle, especially considering their similar storylines . This includes both women being tech savvy and becoming paralyzed. However, Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Team Arrow is now calling Felicity Overwatch.
Unlike Barbara Gordon’s Oracle, Overwatch is not a reference to a comic book hero. Instead, the codename is actually the title of Marc Guggenheim’s book about a CIA conspiracy.
While this is definitely an interesting codename, at least the show did address why Oliver (Stephen Amell) and his team didn’t name her Oracle.
“I was gonna go with Oracle, but it’s taken,” Oliver told her in the episode.
Meanwhile, with one question about Felicity’s fate answered, another mystery surrounding the flash forward grave scene remains. Although fans have long speculated about which character’s name is on the gravestone, some of the cast members are now starting to get nervous.
In an interview with E! Online , David Ramsey , who plays John Diggle, discussed the flash forward scene and how none of the characters apart from Oliver and Felicity are safe.
“We all know that there’s a mark on everyone’s back except for Oliver and Felicity. We get it, we know it,” he shared. “But as actor’s, we have to do the work and we have to continue to do justice to the characters and the script.”
As fans will recall, the flash forward scene included Oliver standing next to an unknown grave with The Flash/Barry Allen (Grant Gustin). So far, the identity of the person in the grave has not been revealed, but a recent episode showed that it was not Felicity.
With the rest of the cast members in the crosshairs, Ramsey went on to admit that the situation reminded him of his days playing on the hit Showtime series, Dexter . Back in those days, Ramsey explained how he would always take a look at the back of the script in order to see if his character had survived the season.
Unfortunately, he can’t do the same thing with Arrow .
“You have to read the whole script on Arrow because you might die in the middle of it,” he stated. “So, no one knows yet, but yes it’s that same type of, there’s a little bit of angst, a little bit of anxiety in the air.”
Although Ramsey still doesn’t know who is in the grave, he did reveal that fans will know by the season’s end.
“And now, I think the producers have publicly said we’ll know before the end of the season, so it’s like, OK, we’re in episode blah-blah now and we’ve only got five more,” Ramsey explained. “So, any day now…But, no matter who it is, I’m going to hate seeing anybody go. And of course, I love playing Diggle, so we’ll see what happens.”
In the meantime, the second half of Arrow Season 4 is currently underway, and in the next episode, Ramsey’s Diggle will play a large role. Specifically, Diggle and his brother will be confronted by a secret organization that will push their relationship to the brink.
Furthermore, Ramsey hinted that fans can expect the show to explore his character’s relationship with Felicity as the season continues to develop. Hopefully, this means that the writers have big plans for the character and that he doesn’t end up being the person in the grave.
The fourth season of Arrow continues on Wednesday nights on The CW.
