Stacey Dash Reacts To Oscars Boycott: ‘There Shouldn’t Be A Black History Month’

Stacey Dash has spoken. Everyone who’s prominent in Hollywood is talking about the Oscars boycott that’s happening right now. The boycott is in response to the Academy’s problem with diversity, after they failed to nominate any talent from the African American community in the major categories.

Now, Fox correspondent Stacey Dash, who has her own set of critics, weighed in on the Oscar snubs and the subsequent boycott led by Jada Pinkett Smith and director Spike Lee. Instead of vouching to boycott, Stacey Dash said that African Americans want it both ways and that they had to “make up their mind” on if they wanted to be segregated or included.

Dash took it a step further by saying that the BET awards shouldn’t exist and neither should Black History Month, which celebrates the achievement of Black individuals. Obviously, this bold statement had a few people up in arms.

“We have to make up our minds. Either we want to have segregation or integration. And if we don’t want segregation, then we need to get rid of channels like B.E.T. and the B.E.T. Awards and the Image Awards where you’re only awarded if you’re black. If it were the other way around, we would be up in arms. It’s a double standard. ”

When Dash is asked about whether or not she thinks there should be a BET channel, the former actress doesn’t hesitate in answering. “No, I don’t think so. No. Just like there shouldn’t be a Black History Month. You know? We’re Americans. Period. That’s it. ”

As expected, some people took to Twitter in response to Stacey Dash:

This isn’t the first time that Stacey Dash has riled people up. Back in 2013, Dash slammed Oprah for her comments on Trayvon Martin. The conservative former actress used a line from Malcolm X while tweeting to Oprah about her comments comparing the tragic death of Trayvon Martin to the death of Emmett Till, the death which practically started the Civil Rights movement.

“If you aren’t careful, The newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed and loving the people who are doing the oppressing ~ Malcolm X. Shame on you @oprah.”

More recently, Stacey Dash was suspended for two weeks by Fox News due to her comments about President Barack Obama. At the time, the Clueless star said that President Obama, “doesn’t give a s–t about terrorism.”

In the past she has also tried to shut down former Today anchor Meredith Vieira about the wage gap disparity between men and women. When actress Rita Wilson came up in conversation, as she’s one of the stars who’s voicing for equal pay, Dash told Vieira that she “shouldn’t be a victim.”

“It’s an excuse. Stop making excuses. If there are opportunities, seize them. And be prepared for them. And be the best, if that’s what it takes. If you have to be extraordinary, be extraordinary.” When Vieira explained to Dash that she wasn’t paid on the same scale as her male colleagues, she wasn’t convinced.

As for the Oscar boycott, it’s safe to say Dash wants nothing to do with it.
