Charlie Hunnam graciously treated fans to multiple sightings in and around Laredo, Texas, this past week. While fans lined up to catch a glimpse of the Sons of Anarchy star, Hunnam’s appearance in Texas sparked more speculation surrounding the upcoming prequel to the hit biker drama. Was Hunnam scouting locations in Texas for the Sons of Anarchy prequel ?
A few lucky fans ran into Hunnam during his stay in Texas and posted pictures of their interactions on social media. For his part, Hunnam appeared more than happy to snap a few pics with fans while he made his way through town.
“Charlie Hunnam #SamCro #RedwoodOriginal Sons Of Anarchy,” one fan wrote alongside a photo of Hunnam on Twitter.
Although fans would undoubtedly love the idea that Hunnam was scouting for locations in Texas for the upcoming Sons of Anarchy prequel, OLV is reporting that Hunnam was in town for a different project. Apparently, Charlie Hunnam was in Texas researching his part in the upcoming film, American Drug Lord .
Meanwhile, Kurt Sutter is currently working on getting the prequel to Sons of Anarchy up and running. According to Youth Health Magazine , Sutter’s newest venture into the Sons of Anarchy world will center on the original members of SAMCRO and their journey in setting up the club in the 1960s.
“So, we can see the roots of the club and I see it as a different show… I don’t think it will be as pulpy,” Sutter told E! Online . “I feel it will be a little more, I don’t want to say a historical show, but it takes place in the ’60s and it’s Vietnam, so there’s a lot of iconic events happening around it that influence John Teller.”
With the new series focusing on Jax’s father and the beginnings of the biker club, it isn’t clear if Hunnam will make a cameo in the prequel. If the new show does not venture out beyond the ’60s, then it is difficult to see where Hunnam’s character would fit in, though it wouldn’t be out of the question.
That being said, Vegas News reported that Hunnam was recently spotted in Las Vegas with a few of his former Sons of Anarchy alum. Hunnam met up with Chuck Zito and Richard Wilk for dinner at a steakhouse in the city, then was later spotted with Christopher Douglas Reed.
During the dinner outing, Hunnam and Zito were joined by a number of different friends at the Andiamo Steakhouse, where the group ordered a round of salads, crab cakes, and steaks. Zito played Frankie Diamonds on the biker drama, while Reed played the role of Philip “Filthy Phil” Russell for a stretch of episodes.
The sightings of Hunnam hanging out with several of his Sons of Anarchy co-stars sparked a new round of speculation regarding his involvement in the highly anticipated prequel. While it is still up in the air if Hunnam will reprise his role as Jax Teller, Sutter does have plans to get Brad Pitt to play the role of John Teller in the new series.
“Kurt is trying to get [the prequel] going,” Hunnam explained in an interview with Men’s Journal . “Did you read that about Brad Pitt maybe playing my dad? Brad Pitt as John Teller? How awesome would that be?”
With Sutter deciding to end his latest series, The Bastard Executioner , he now has some time to work out the finer details on his Sons of Anarchy prequel. Until more news is revealed, fans will have to wait to find out if Hunnam will be a part of the new series.
