Earlier today, Gawker published a piece that suggested Sarah Palin, the former governor of Alaska, would endorse Donald Trump for the Republican presidential nomination. The evidence to support the idea that Palin would endorse Trump was pretty compelling.
The first thing that made people wonder was when Donald took to his Facebook page to announce that at his event in Iowa, he would have a major announcement and “a very special guest.” Then, a user of FlightAware discovered a private jet that had traveled from Anchorage, Alaska, to Des Moines, Iowa.
The flight departed Anchorage on January 18 at 11:54 a.m. AKST and landed in Des Moines at 7:55 p.m. CST. This could suggest that Palin will make her announcement at Trump’s event scheduled for January 19 at 3 p.m.
Add to the above evidence the fact that Sarah Palin has previously expressed her admiration for Trump and an endorsement seems very likely. In September, Palin told CNN that she would like to work for a Trump administration .
“Because energy is my baby — oil and gas and minerals, those things that God has dumped on this part of the Earth for mankind’s use, instead of relying on unfriendly foreign nations for us to import their resources.”
If Trump became president, Palin hinted that she would be interested in leading the Department of Energy as CBS News reported.
Trump also has expressed his admiration for Palin as well. Last July, he said that he would love to have her join his administration if he were elected president.
Yet another point to support the idea is that Palin is no stranger to giving endorsements. When Ted Cruz was running his Senate campaign, he received an endorsement from the former Alaskan governor. She also gave endorsements to Senators Kelly Ayotte, Rand Paul, and Marco Rubio, who all won their elections.
Senator Ted Cruz, who’s also seeking the Republican presidential nomination, was not thrilled with the rumors of a Palin endorsement of Mr. Trump. Before any actual announcement has been made, the Cruz campaign’s spokesman, Rick Tyler, told CNN that a Trump endorsement would “be a blow” to Ms. Palin.
“I think it [would] be a blow to Sarah Palin, because Sarah Palin has been a champion for the conservative cause, and if she was going to endorse Donald Trump, sadly, she would be endorsing someone who’s held progressive views all their life on the sanctity of life, on marriage, on partial-birth abortion.”
After the Cruz campaign released their statement in response to the endorsement rumors, Sarah’s daughter, Bristol Palin, took to Patheos to counter what the Cruz campaign had said . Bristol slammed Ted Cruz as being a “typical politician” and said she hopes her mother does endorse Trump.
“After hearing what Cruz is now saying about my mom, in a negative knee-jerk reaction, makes me hope my mom does endorse Trump. Cruz’s flip-flop, turning against my mom who’s done nothing but support and help him when others sure didn’t, shows he’s a typical politician.”
Bristol Palin argued that we don’t need another flip-flopping politician in the White House. She also wrote that she hopes Trump will win and become the president.
Although not directly addressing the rumors, Sarah did send out a tweet that linked to her daughter’s article about the whole situation. If she wasn’t planning on endorsing Trump, why would she promote an article that calls for her to do so?
One thing’s for sure, if Palin is going to endorse Trump, we should find out very soon.
