With Arrow currently going into the second half of its fourth season, there is a possibility that Stephen Amell will leave the show after Season 5. If Amell decides to end his run with the hit series, there are a few directions the series could take without the Green Arrow at the helm. With that in mind, what becomes of the show with Amell gone?
For starters, it is possible that the show could just end. After all, Amell’s character is the main focal point of the series. Without Oliver Queen, Arrow would not have the same look and feel fans have come to expect from the hit series.
However, Movie Pilot is reporting that producers could continue the show without Amell. The biggest hurdle in continuing the series is finding a replacement for Oliver. Luckily, the show has no shortage of superheroes, and any number of them could take the lead and become the main character. This includes Thea, who has the potential of becoming the new Green Arrow or simply remaining Speedy. Of course, she would likely enlist the help of Guardian and Black Canary to help protect the city.
Another option for the show is to move the characters to a new series all together. There have been plenty of crossover episodes with The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow , and there would be plenty of destinations available. Although this would spell the end of Arrow , it would enable the majority of characters to remain on the air and continue to develop their storylines.
Apart from shifting characters around, another possibility is a spin-off series. Producers could take one or two of the characters from Arrow and start a new series based in the same world. The spin-off would then take the place of Arrow , but allow fans to remain in that world. A few characters that would make good options for a spin-off include Nightwing, Vixen, Red Arrow, or the Question.
Although all of these are credible options for the future of the series, many fans would love to see Stephen Amell continue on with the show beyond Season 5. However, along with Amell admitting that Season 5 could be his final season with the show, Australian Network News is reporting that Amell might be set for a role in The CW’s Supernatural .
Supernatural is getting ready to feature an episode with a wrestling storyline, which might serve as Amell’s ticket into the series. After all, the Arrow star is known for his martial arts ability and won his debut match in WWE’s Summer Slam this past year. Given his past experience, the actor’s transition onto the show would be fairly easy to accomplish.
Furthermore, Amell recently posted a picture on Twitter that confirmed his love for Supernatural . The image featured Amell sitting with his back toward the camera while watching an episode of the hit show.
Rumors that Amell would be leaving the show first cropped up after his recent Q&A session on Facebook . When discussing the future of Arrow , Amell admitted the series was not planned to venture beyond a fifth season.
“We were always built to be a five year show, which is a very courageous thing to plan for when you’re just in the pilot stages of something.”
Aside from a possible role on Supernatural , Design & Trend is reporting that Amell might be set for a role in an upcoming Marvel Comics film . In fact, the actor even admitted that he would be willing to play a superhero role on the big screens.
“Sure, why not,” he revealed. “I’m up for roles — movie roles — although I’ve never really read Marvel Comics and I was always a DC guy even before I was a DC guy. But it’s not like if I got offered an awesome Marvel superhero, I’d be like ‘No, I can’t.’”
Stephen Amell returns for the second half of Season 4 of Arrow , January 20 on The CW.
