There have been rumors about Bill Goldberg returning to WWE ever since he left the company over a decade ago. Still, nothing has come from them, but that doesn’t mean they are going to stop. The latest rumor has Goldberg training for a return to WWE and that the build-up is actually going to be for a match with Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 32 .
Goldberg isn’t against wrestling again and actually wants his kid to see him perform in the ring. He’s not even against returning to WWE and has had talks with Triple H about it, but he just wants to be treated with respect and have the return be beneficial to both sides.
Wrestling News World is reporting that the rumors have indeed started up again, and it’s for a rematch from WrestleMania XX . At that event, Brock Lesnar took on Bill Goldberg with “Stone Cold” Steve Austin as the special guest referee.
For anyone that hasn’t been a wrestling fan long enough to remember that match, it was not met with much fan appreciation. Actually, fans booed them out of the building more than they did Roman Reigns after winning the Royal Rumble in 2015.
Both stars were on their way out of the company and fans wanted nothing to do with them. Goldberg got the win, and Lesnar flipped off the crowd. Austin ended up giving Stunners to both wrestlers and gave the crowd something to cheer about.
Fast forward 12 years to the present day and Brock Lesnar is undoubtedly the most popular superstar in all of WWE. Seeing Goldberg back in WWE now would lead to a great surprise and it would make sense to pit him up against Lesnar in a rematch that is over a decade in the making.
Bill Goldberg has talked about a return and even said in the past that he would love to take on Lesnar in the ring. A couple months ago, Goldberg said exactly what it would take for him to wrestle Lesnar at WrestleMania 32 in a conversation with WrestleZone Radio .
“At the end of the day no bulls**t. Just get straight to the point. Let’s talk business. At the end of the day I don’t know what a realistic conversation is with these guys or anybody in the wrestling world for that matter because I haven’t had one in such a long period of time. I don’t know the lay of the land anymore but I know how business is done from back in the day. I know how it should be done now. There’s certain constants that are always there and… I don’t know man. I have no idea what that conversation would be like because I have not thought about it for one second. I don’t know man.”
That seems simple enough and isn’t a whole lot to ask from WWE. The soon to be 49-year-old is in great shape and just wants a contract that is respectful to him and he will give his all to WWE for one more wrestling run.
Right now, if Goldberg were to return, it’s kind of hard to image who would end up coming out on top in a match between him and Brock Lesnar. The “Beast Incarnate” is making a return to WWE soon as well, and he’s kind of without a feud or program.
After handling The Undertaker and ending that feud, it’s hard to imagine that there is someone currently in WWE who can go toe-to-toe with Lesnar. Goldberg is someone who matches up physically with Lesnar and it would have a storyline already written for it.
Bill Goldberg returning to WWE is not something that is guaranteed to happen, but if it’s going to, it needs to happen soon. No one is getting any younger and a match at WrestleMania 32 with Brock Lesnar would need to start being built up now, so this is the time.
