Miley Cyrus, after hosting the MTV VMAs this year and currently on her “Milky Milky Milk Tour” (originally called the “Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz Tour”), performed with veteran rock band the Flaming Lips at the House of Blues on December 6. Cyrus and the group performed a rendition of the Beatles’ classic song “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.”
It isn’t the first time the two have worked together, as the Flaming Lips served as producers on several songs for Cyrus’ last album, Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz . Flaming Lips lead singer Wayne Coyne first met Miley Cyrus a couple of years ago, and while he was unsure if their musical preferences would work well together, Coyne now feels that he has quite a lot in common with the “Wrecking Ball” singer. According to the New York Times , Coyne feels that their massive age difference between each other is just one reason why they connect so well.
“Miley isn’t a typical 23-year-old. Her and Katie my girlfriend are years ahead of us in intelligence. They have something more going on. We just like the same things. With Miley especially, once she got that power and freedom with her creativity she just went for it. I never thought about it that much. I’ve been doing The Flaming Lips for 32 years now. Every day I get to wake up and say I run The Flaming Lips and we get to do this today!”
“I don’t always like the word catharsis. It implies my pain is where my art comes from. I’ve been around plenty of people who are like (adopts dopey roadie voice) ‘Whoa, this guy is wearing me out!’ and when you’re with someone like Miley Cyrus she’s a lot like me, we don’t always have the luxury of knowing what we’re going to do that day but we’ve always got the energy to do it. We just keep going until we have the satisfaction of knowing we’ve done a good job. She’s often the last one standing and she’s looking over at me because I’m the only other one standing. If she falls I’ll catch her and vice versa. Miley and I are very much alike. The parties are not as crazy as what people think. When I hear of stories of Led Zeppelin taking over whole floors of a hotel and throwing TVs out of windows, we’re nothing like that.”
In addition, Miley Cyrus recently performed her own version of the Christmas song “Silent Night” as part of Netflix’s A Very Murray Christmas starring Bill Murray. The special event was directed by Sofia Coppola. Cyrus’ cover of the classic Christmas song, accompanied by Paul Shaffer on the piano, was done without any big production or exaggerated antics, which is something that does not happen very often in Miley’s performances. She was dressed rather appropriately, wearing a satin Santa-inspired corset, as opposed to one of the absurd costume choices she had during this year’s VMA’s on MTV. Bill Murray, who stars as a singer, admitted that working with Miley Cyrus was an enjoyable experience, regardless of whatever statements he had made in regards to the singer previously.
Speaking of Christmas, it looks as if Miley Cyrus still has hopes of rekindling her romance with actor Liam Hemsworth and her wish for her 23 birthday centered around him. Cyrus turned 23 on November 23 and apparently made a wish of wanting to receive a loving message from Hemsworth.
“Miley has one wish for her birthday — and that’s a loving message from Liam,” a source close to Cyrus told Hollywood Life . “She’s got all the money in the world to buy herself any possession she wants, so she doesn’t care for that sort of thing.”
Cyrus posted a screenshot on her Instagram of a text message she received which read, “I love u.” While she did not specifically say who sent her the text, her loyal fans and followers reportedly believed it was her ex-fiancé.
