Kim Kardashian could have diabetes, a new Keeping Up With The Kardashians clip reveals.
In a scene from tonight’s new episode, Kim tells a stunned Kris Jenner and Kourtney Kardashian about a new pregnancy update that she’s gotten from her doctor.
“Well, they saw a little bit more fluid than normal in my placenta which either could mean that I’m having a carbon tolerance or I have diabetes,” Kim says.
“Gosh, I hope you don’t have diabetes,” Kris replies.
“I had gestational diabetes with Kylie,” Kris adds. “It’s very serious. Your life is at stake.”
According to the American Diabetes Association , gestational diabetes normally happens during the 24th week of pregnancy, and it doesn’t mean that the mother will have diabetes after childbirth. One of the symptoms of gestational diabetes is abnormally high blood glucose levels during pregnancy.
Experts aren’t exactly sure what causes the phenomenon, but many speculate that the hormones in the placenta cause insulin resistance — they prevent the insulin in the mother’s body from working properly. This means that the mother will need three times the amount of insulin that she would need if she wasn’t pregnant. Without insulin, the body can’t use the glucose in the blood to produce energy.
Gestational diabetes can negatively affect the growing baby. It’s been known to lead to macrosomia, or a “fat” baby. Babies with macrosomia have a higher likelihood of being obese and developing type-2 diabetes. It can also cause stillbirths and miscarriages if not treated properly. It can also increase the mother’s risk of developing type 2 diabetes later in life, as well.
Given these facts, you can just add gestational diabetes to the growing list of things that Kim Kardashian hates about pregnancy. The Keeping Up With The Kardashians star has not been shy about revealing how much she hates being pregnant, Us Weekly reports. She despises the experience, a truth she made abundantly clear in a tell-all post on her website, titled “From the Desk Of: How I Really Feel About Being Pregnant.”
“I’m gonna keep it real: For me, pregnancy is the worst experience of my life! LOL!” Kardashian wrote on Monday, October 5. “I don’t enjoy one moment of it and I don’t understand people who enjoy it.”
According to Kim, the physical changes that her body goes through are really difficult for her to deal with. There’s also the issue of finding clothes that fit.
“Maybe it’s the swelling, the backaches or just the complete mindf**k of how your body expands and nothing fits,” she continued. “I just always feel like I’m not in my own skin.”
Then there’s the whole issue of what happens to your body after the baby is born, which isn’t “sexy” at all, in Kim’s opinion.
“People just don’t tell you all of the gross things that happen during pregnancy or after. Do you know you basically have to wear a diaper for two months afterwards?!” Kardashian wrote. “LOL! No one told me that! #SoSexy.”
But despite all of those complaints, Kim maintains that she does love being a mother and that she cherishes her time with her first child, North West.
“Really, it is all SO worth it when you have your precious baby in the end! So for all my complaining,” she wrote. “It’s 100 percent worth it and more!!!”
According to this previous Inquisitr article , Kim is currently living at her mother’s house while the mansion she shares with husband Kanye West is being renovated. The change seems to be causing a rift in the celebrity relationship, according to insiders. An article in the New! Magazine (via Belfast Telegraph ) reports that Kanye feels particularly uncomfortable with the arrangement.
“Kim and Kanye fight quite a lot about it and things are tense,” the anonymous source said. “The strain on their marriage is palpable, as living with his mother-in-law was never what Kanye had in mind when he married Kim. Yes, the house is big, but he still feels put upon and not in his own digs, whereas it doesn’t bother Kim much.”
Kim Kardashian is due to give birth to her second child on Christmas Day, according to E! Online .
