Not surprisingly, American Horror Story has just signed for a sixth season on FX.
John Landgraf, who is the CEO of FX Networks and FX Productions, made the announcement that American Horror Storyhas “joined the ranks of television’s landmark series.”
“From Murder House to Hotel , AHS has pioneered a new television form as well becoming FX’s highest rated show—while also pushing every conceivable boundary of creative excellence and audacity.”
He goes on to praise Murphy and co-creator Brad Falchuk for coming up with “challenging the entire creative team to come up with something even more spectacular, frightful and entertaining” every year.
The sixth season of American Horror Story will debut next year, and there is talk that co-creator Ryan Murphy has already asked Lady Gaga if she would like to come back for the sixth season. Murphy is hoping that Gaga will be able to work American Horror Story around her tour to star in the next installment of the horror franchise. Gaga is, of course, the only potential cast member mentioned. Murphy has been quiet about who will be starring (will Jessica Lange return?) and what the sixth season’s title will be.
American Horror Story is FX’s highest rated series–ever, and let’s not forget the 13 Emmys that the show has won over the past five seasons, out of 71 nominations.
At an October EW Fest, Murphy stated that he is considering two ideas for the next season of American Horror Story . He hinted that although the show has only been picked up for one season, he would like to do two seasons of American Horror Story : one in the fall and another in the spring. Murphy isn’t sure, however. “We have to decide.”
Evan Peters , one of American Horror Story ‘s regular stars, admits that he has his own idea for Season 6.
“I keep pitching that it should be in space because I think the contained thing in space is really scary!”
He further explains that space is “very intense,” and “there’s a lot that could happen.”
His idea is understandable: there would be aliens and people losing their minds. In his interview with Vulture , he is told that they could incorporate the aliens from Season 2, American Horror Story: Asylum .
“That would be cool! We’d get to have closure with them. Figure out what happened there!”
Murphy explains that the writing process for the sixth season of American Horror Story will be different than the previous five.
“We’re doing something that we’ve never done before on the show where we’re doing two different groups of writers rooms. Some of our writers will be bouncing around but a whole different group coming in late August. The next thing we’re crafting up is very, very different than this. Not smaller. But just not opulent. More rogue and more dark.”
After Murphy’s tweet, Gaga told E! News’ Kristin Dos Santos that she thinks that “one great acting project” a year would be “great.”
Murphy and Falchuk have also created an OJ Simpson-themed first season of another anthology called American Crime Story . Murphy already has two more ideas for this series, but notes that it “requires a little extra pre-production lead time given the need to acquire intellectual property rights.”
Murphy and Falchuk also have another series that has snagged another season: Scream Queens will be back! Knowing Murphy and Falchuk’s brand of writing, there will most likely be hints in the shows to come, just like American Horror Story.
You can catch American Horror Story: Hotel at 10:00 p.m. every Wednesday on FX.
