The Spider-Man movie cast might get a surprise return if Marvel wants him. Apparently, Sam Raimi wants to try again, and says he knows he “messed up” with Spider-Man 3 .
The star will be decidedly younger than he was in previous incarnations of the web-slinger’s films, as previously reported by the Inquisitr . Though the new Peter Parker will be 19-year-old Tom Holland, the actor appears young enough to pass for a high-schooler, which is what Marvel was aiming for.
It is unknown if Marvel’s idea for the Spider-Man reboot will work like they expect, but looking back on the Marvel Cinematic Universe, they haven’t made a complete flop yet. The Incredible Hulk , while still owned by Universal Studios (but still featured staples Hawkeye and Agent Coulson), was arguably one of their weakest installments. Iron Man 2 and 3 were critical let-downs, but still succeeded in what they set out to do.
So far, the official Spider-Man movie cast on Marvel’s turf includes only Tom Holland as the spunky anti-hero, and Marisa Tomei as his ever-doting Aunt May. The director at this point has been solidified as Jon Watts , a relative unknown to big budget films. His last films were Cop Car and Clown , straying from his previous career as a comedy director.
Being a comedy director might make Jon Watts a natural for the Spider-Man reboot, though if he ever drops out, the man behind Tobey Maguire’s run would like another chance.
When the first Spider-Man swung its way into theaters in 2002, audiences seemed to love Raimi’s take on Peter Parker as a clumsy college student with a crush on Mary Jane Watson (Kirsten Dunst). When a struggle with Sony Pictures allegedly led to part of what made Spider-Man 3 so bad it required a reboot, its director was well aware of what happened. Sam would love to try his hand at directing the new Spider-Man movie cast now that Marc Webb’s attempt has proven to be a failure.
Though Sam is currently involved in a comeback for Evil Dead , he confessed his failure with Spider-Man 3 to The Week , “I messed up on the third one. I think they’re so complete now, Marvel. They probably don’t need me anymore. But if they needed me? I’d love to. It’s great to be wanted.”
Unfortunately, the fans might not want him back at the reins of the Spider-Man movie cast. After a few song and dance scenes turned audiences away, according to Entertainment Weekly , the minimal appearance of fan-favorite villain Venom (Topher Grace) made it plain that Raimi had taken it too far.

The film had become too much of a comedy, and not because of Peter Parker’s sense of humor. If was a source of jokes about how far Raimi had fallen since his famous portrayal of Doctor Octopus (Alfred Molina) had become a fan favorite.
A second attempt to revitalize the Spider-Man movie cast with Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone proved to be a partial success. Unfortunately, the second film had what critics called hilariously bad villains, and literally ended on a fight that had been teased in the trailers. We never got to see the friendly neighborhood web-slinger actually face off against Rhino (Paul Giamatti), though we were teased with a spin-off based on the Sinister Six.
Due to Sony Pictures’ woes, the Sinister Six film might never actually be made, hence they made a deal with Marvel for two films featuring Spider-Man .
It’s still early and production hasn’t even begun yet, so Jon Watts might still drop out. If he does, original director Sam Raimi would love to direct the Spider-Man movie cast one more time and attempt to redeem himself.
