Demi Lovato and Nick Jonas jointly announced they will team up for a summer tour that will span North America, Entertainment Weekly reported Monday.
For Demi and Nick, their paths continue to intertwine , Rolling Stone reported. Lovato and Jonas starred in the Disney musical, Camp Rock, and its sequel, in 2010. When Demi and Nick launched musical careers — Lovato on her own, Jonas along with his brothers — they immediately began to tour together.
The Future Now: The Tourwill be the sixth such concert series that Demi and Nick have participated in together. From 2008-2010, Lovato opened for the Jonas Brothers on their world tours. Nick returned the favor in 2012 and 2014 for Demi, serving as a special guest and creative director on her tour.
In announcing the Future Now: The Tour alongside Nick, Demi expressed her excitement to re-connect with the fans who have supported her musical career.
“The most important thing is taking the show on the road and getting to share this experience with all the fans that have supported this music for the past, you know, couple of years.”
Included in the announcement — which Lovato and Jonas made on Good Morning America — was the creation of Safehouse Records, a recording label started in May of this year.
Jonas spoke about their long past in expressing his excitement for the upcoming musical collaboration with Lovato.
“Demi and I were business partners and, obviously, have a long history of being friends, but the chief for us was about living in this moment, taking a step out individually over the last year and a half, two years, growing with our fans, and saying if there’s ever a time to do it, it’s now, to come together and do this tour.”
Lovato has been in the news of late. In addition to dropping her album, Confident, this month, Demi posed nude for two separate magazines. One song on the album — “Cool For The Summer” — had fans question whether Demi had bisexual experiences in her past. Lovato played coy in answering the questions, leaving room for interpretation into what the “Cool For The Summer” singer said.
Prior to Monday’s announcement, rumors swirled that Adam Lambert — and not Nick Jonas — would be touring with Demi Lovato this summer. In the scenario presented by TMZ, Demi Lovato was casting shadeon Adam, ditching the “Ghost Town” singer for close friend and business partner Nick Jonas.
USA Today put those rumors to rest , recapping how a tweet from Lambert and the response from Lovato cited business complexities, not personal issues, that prevented the potential touring combination.
Those aren’t the only rumors circulating about one of the Future Now: The Tour participants. Movie Pilot has romantically connected Nick Jonas with Kate Hudson after the two were spotted having lunch, visiting clubs, and hanging out at Disneyland. Neither artist has confirmed there is a relationship, however.
For his part, Jonas has stayed busy, too. Recently, Nick dropped new singles “Levels” and “Area Code” for fans. It’s possible by the time the Future Now: The Tour kicks off that Jonas could have another album ready for release. However, Nick has not made an announcement about when he will release the next compilation, or if it would be from the two friends’ own Safehouse Records.
The Future Now: The Tour kicks off in June in Florida and wraps up in Los Angeles, California, September 17, 2016. In between, stops go up and down the eastern coast and include some Canadian venues.
