Chris Brown and Karrueche Tran may have called off their longtime romance earlier this year, but it appears both Brown and Tran are still fighting it out in the headlines when it comes to sifting through rumors surrounding their former relationship.
Karrueche Tran made headlines earlier this week after she blasted ex-boyfriend Chris Brown by insinuating that Brown’s behavior and bad reputation have damaged her career to a point that she is having difficulty finding work in Hollywood despite her social media presence and popularity among fans.
In an interview with Newsbeat , via BBC News , Karrueche gets candid about her tumultuous former relationship with Chris Brown before telling reporters that she has received an overwhelming amount of “negative comments” since ending her relationship to Brown in March.
Karrueche famously called off her on-again-off-again relationship with Chris Brown earlier this year after discovering that Chris fathered his 1-year-old daughter, Royalty, with model Nia Guzman while on a break from his relationship with Karrueche.
When the topic of Chris Brown came up in Karrueche’s interview, Tran explains that she’s focused on “maturing” and getting her “career together” without having to be “associated” with Brown’s reputation.
Similarly, Karrueche reveals that she’s had to combat “negative stuff” that is being said about her in relation to her former romance with Brown, noting that people say she’s “only famous because of Chris Brown.”
While Brown has made headlines for his various attempts at reconciling with Tran since embracing his new fatherhood status, Karrueche shuts down rumors that suggest she and Chris have plans to get back together in the future.
“We’re not friends or anything like that at this point. A lot of people think I am a weak individual because of past situations and when it comes to business, sometimes people don’t want to be involved with somebody like that.”
Just days after Tran’s interview began making headlines, sources close to Chris Brown began to speak out against the model’s claims by insisting that Brown is the only reason Karrueche has a career in the first place.
An insider reveals to Urban Islandz that Brown is “upset” by Karrueche’s claims and feels that he has only helped to escalate her fame over the duration of their relationship.
“Let’s be clear about it, there would be no Karrueche Tran if she didn’t date Chris Brown,” the insider says in response to Tran’s interview.
The source goes on to explain that Karrueche wouldn’t be a celebrity if she hadn’t “injected herself into Chris’ life after the Rihanna incident,” noting it’s ironic that Tran would try and place the blame on her relationship with Brown despite having dated him for several years.
“[Karrueche] should be thanking [Chris Brown] for making her famous and stop bashing him for her misfortune.”
Similarly, another source close to Chris Brown reveals that while he’s bothered by Karrueche’s statement, he’s “trying to not let it get the better of him.”
“He has his daughter, Royalty, to focus on and also his upcoming album so he has been busy in the studio putting on the finishing touches,” the source explains, noting that Tran should focus on “moving on” from their relationship and “stop talking about Chris in every single interview that she does.”
While Karrueche may be focused on blasting Chris Brown in the media, Brown made headlines earlier this week after he released a new single, “Sorry,” alongside Rick Ross, in which he sings about his guilt over hurting Karrueche Tran with his behavior.
“Sorry won’t turn back the clock / Baby I took advantage cause I knew you / Wouldn’t believe it, so I used you / I’m sorry, oh I’m sorry, don’t make it right, I know,” Brown sings in the track, seemingly alluding to his former relationship with Karrueche.
