Kevin Spacey has finally revealed to the world the answer to one of House of Cards biggest mysteries. In a recent appearance on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Spacey revealed just who it is Frank Underwood is always talking to on the hit political drama.
“Who do you think you’re talking to when you talk right to the camera? Who is that person? Is it like a close confidant?” Colbert questioned Spacey during the interview. “Because the persona you’re actually talking to, of course, are people on a 10-hour Netflix binge, sucking on boxed wine.”
According to E! Online , Spacey stated that he’s actually talking to a real life presidential candidate whenever his character speaks directly to the camera.
“This is the truth, from the very beginning, when I’m looking directly into that camera, I’m talking to one person and one person only, and that is Donald Trump.”
All kidding aside, fans will be excited to learn that production for the upcoming season of House of Cards has already started. In fact, Fulton Post News is reporting that filmmakers were recently at Hartford Community College, filming for the highly anticipated Season 4.
“Film production crew on campus today asking that students NOT take OR POST photos of filming,” the college wrote on Twitter. “Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.”
However, the college was not able to release any information concerning the nature of the scenes. For now, details about the new season are being kept fairly under wraps, which is something Spacey has admitted is part of his job.
“I have such respect for the audience and the fact … there are people who still haven’t watched season one … So I kind of have a policy about this: I won’t discuss any plot points or anything that happens in any season and I haven’t ever, for three years,” the actor explained in a past interview. “As I said, it’s one of the most satisfying parts of being in this show. I can’t actually do it because I can’t be the Spoiler in Chief.”
In addition to filming at the college, production crew members were also seen elsewhere in the area, including an elementary school, Chesapeake Center, and the APG Federal Credit Union.
Meanwhile, although Spacey was unable to release any information concerning the new season, Beau Willimon recently sat down with Entertainment Weekly and hinted at what’s to come by talking about how the fans reacted to Season 3.
With that in mind, some fans were a bit disappointed with the decision to focus on the marriage between Frank and Claire.
“Of course, there were people who wanted to see the Underwoods kick butt in their usual fashion and have victory after victory and I’m sure it was hard for them to see the Underwoods tumble and sometimes fall,” Willimon stated. “But if they didn’t, they wouldn’t be human, and it would make it seem like the presidency was a cakewalk, which we know it’s not.”
As far as the new season is concerned, Willimon admitted that he wouldn’t adjust the story to meet certain demands, though he is grateful for all the feedback he gets from fans.
“We have to walk a certain line. We don’t want to pander or cater an upcoming season based purely on fan responses,” he explained in the interview. “But I am interesting in what they have to say and I think it’s great we can talk to each other.”
Although this doesn’t tell us much about what to expect in Season 4, it does make it seem as though the new season might feature more troubles for Frank and Claire.
The new season of House of Cards is set to stream on Netflix sometime in 2016.
