Cody Pine didn’t hesitate to help when he saw a bully beating up a blind student at Huntington Beach High School, and now the internet is stepping up to help Cody in the aftermath of the viral incident.
Pine became famous this week when a short video showed him jumping in to stop a bully who was attacking a blind student in his high school.
Video of the fight was uploaded to YouTube on Wednesday, showing the bully confronting a blind student who had no interest or ability to fight back. After the unidentified aggressor landed a blow to the blind student’s head, Cody Pine jumped in from out of the camera’s shot and decked the bully, sending him crashing to the ground.
Cody stopped to check his friend, then turned his attention back to the bully.
“Trying to f*****g jump a blind kid, bro,” Cody said as he stood over the bully.
At the end of the video, Cody Pine warned the victim that he would make sure the blind student was never bullied again.
“I swear to God, if you f**k with this kid again I will f**k you up.”
The story of Cody Pine hit the internet quickly. After the video was posted to Reddit, it got tens of thousands of views, with many commenters calling Cody a hero for taking such decisive action.
But, apparently, those in charge at Huntington Beach High School saw it differently. After the fight, Cody Pine was reportedly kicked off the football team, the result of “zero tolerance” policies.
Now the internet is trying to help. Someone started an online petition calling on the school to re-instate Pine to the football team.
The page read (spelling intact):
Cody stepped in when he saw his friend and fellow classmate who is visually diabled being physically bullied. (Punched multiple times in face/head) Cody comes and steps in, punches the bully one time to get him away, guides his friend to a safe location and talks to the bully about how he was beating up a blind kid and how it was wrong. There is Youtube video of the main part of the confrontation.
We believe Cody should be back on his football team and back in school where he belongs. While violence is never the best option what Cody did to defend his friend and classmate was justified. And schools “zero-tolerance” policies out even the person saving disabled friends.
The cause is apparently resonating. The petition quickly reached its goal of 6,000 students, with many praising Cody Pine for stopping the bully who was beating up a blind student.
