San Francisco Giants Trade Rumors: Dexter Fowler May Be Headed To The Giants

According to Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle , the San Francisco Giants are looking to add an outfielder after Hunter Pence suffered an oblique injury, which will send him to the disabled list . The Giants feel they must add an outfielder for the playoff run they hope to make. As of Thursday, the San Francisco Giants are two games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League West, and three behind in the NL wild card race.

The answer to the San Francisco Giants’ desperation may be Dexter Fowler, who was placed on revocable waivers on Tuesday by the Chicago Cubs. Fowler has been having an average year, hitting.252 with a career high 13 home runs and 35 RBI.

“The Giants are keeping their eyes and minds open for outside outfield help, but I’ve been told they don’t want just any outfielder, but one who moves the needle offensively,” writes Schulman. “That kind of guy can be hard to get during August, when teams with inferior records can make blocking claims.”

This trade is definitely something to keep in mind for the San Francisco Giants, since this may be their only chance of making a difference to the playoff race down the stretch. The Giants’ outfield has been banged up all season due to the prolonged absence of both Pence and Nori Aoki, while Angel Pagan recently hit the disabled list because of a knee issue. As a result, the San Francisco Giants may become active near the close of the August waiver trade period.

The Cubs are poised to make their first postseason appearance since 2008. It is currently unknown if they would trade Fowler, given his contribution to the team, and as they hold the second wild card spot. However, one of the San Francisco Giants’ many pitching prospects may sway them. In terms of pitching, Chicago’s farm system is quite thin, and at this point, anything could help.

Adalberto Mejia, Kyle Crick, Ty Blach, and Sam Conrood all come to mind as possible pitching prospects who could be one the move.

Now that Chase Utley, who was a strong target of the Giants, has been dealt to the Dodgers , San Francisco’s front office may be ready to make a move that will match their division rival’s.

We will find out in less than two weeks.

Do you think the San Francisco Giants will make a transaction in order to acquire Dexter Fowler? If not, what other moves do you see the San Francisco Giants making during this month of August?
