Whoopi Goldberg came to the defense of Kelly Osbourne after Osbourne stuck her foot in her mouth during a live taping of The View. The hosts were discussing Donald Trump’s racist remarks about Latinos. Osbourne inadvertently made a disparaging remark about the Latino community, querying “If you kick every Latino out of this country, then who is going to be cleaning your toilet, Donald Trump?”
While the internet railed against Osbourne for her remark, Whoopi graciously backed Kelly. Whoopi, a veteran The View host, explained sometimes mistakes just happen on live television, and Osbourne means nothing by the comment, reports People magazine.

“The point [Osbourne] was actually trying to make was that Donald Trump’s stance on immigration will only end up hurting the people that Donald Trump is counting on,” Whoopi explained to an enraged audience. “And one of the things that happens on live television is you try to get your point in and you try to hit it, and you sometimes stepped in dog doo. It does not make you a racist. Sometimes your head works faster than your mouth. It happens.”
Osbourne immediately apologized for the mistake, taking to Twitter to take responsibility for her actions, reports Business Insider . Kelly said, “I want to start by saying I ALWAYS take responsibility for my actions. In this particular case I will take responsibility for my poor choice of words but I will not apologize for being a racist as I am NOT.”
Osbourne continued to explain that she’s new to live television, and she hopes her mistake sheds light on the issue of immigration. “I should have known better as I was on The View and it was live. I’ve learned a very valuable lesson. It is my hope that this situation will open up a conversation about immigration and the Latin community as a whole.”
Not all the hosts agree with Whoopi, however. Nicolle Wallace said she believes Whoopi would have a different opinion if she didn’t personally know Osbourne. “What struck me was that you guys know her heart…If Ted Cruz said that or Mike Huckabee said that, I can picture all of you looking into the camera saying, ‘I’m going to do something to my toilet, you can clean it.’”
Whoopi, however, is sticking by Kelly Osbourne. “If you’ve ever met a racist, it’s pretty clear. They’re pretty clear,” Whoopi parried back.
