Seattle Seahawks rumors about a Kam Chancellor holdout have proved correct. Seahawks rumors about Chancellor had fans worried, as it looks like the All Pro strong safety wants a pay raise. A report from the Seattle Times late Thursday (July 30) reveals that Chancellor is now the only player that has not reported for the opening day of Seahawks training camp.
While it’s still possible that Chancellor shows up on Friday (July 31), the holdout plans seem to be in motion already. This is not a good sign for a team that will already be without free safety Earl Thomas for the beginning of camp. Thomas is still recovering from off-season shoulder surgery, meaning DeShawn Shead is about to see a lot more playing time during Seahawks training camp.
As previously reported by the Inquisitr , Seattle Seahawks rumors about a Kam Chancellor holdout were started by his agent. His client wants a pay raise after putting together great numbers in the 2014 NFL season, and this is one method that players have resorted to. Currently, Chancellor is under contract for just over $4.5 million this season, $5.1 million in 2016, and $6.8 million in 2017. This was part of a contract extension he signed that also included a $5 million signing bonus.
Some good news that has come from the Seahawks training camp is that defensive end Michael Bennett reported to the team. He had talked about holding out for a pay raise (again) during the NFL off-season, but it appears that he has decided to just report to camp instead. That will at least allow the front office to focus on the Chancellor situation a bit more. There is still the issue of Russell Wilson still not having a contract extension, though, so it’s not like there is only one issue for the team to deal with at VMAC.
For each day that the Kam Chancellor holdout progresses, he will get fined $30,000. This is likely just a placeholder, though, because the Seahawks have waived fines in the past once a player has finally reported. He doesn’t have a roster bonus this year and won’t be fined for simply not reporting, meaning Chancellor has very little risk to ask for a pay raise at this point.
What these Seattle Seahawks rumors definitely show is that Chancellor has been a bargain for the team to this point. It might mean that he deserves a nice raise now, and that the holdout is going to pay off for the Pro Bowl safety.
