According to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports , the New York Yankees have inquired about a trade that would make their starting rotation one of the best in all of baseball.
The New York Yankees have called the Philadelphia Phillies regarding the creation of a possible trade that would send their ace, Cole Hamels, to New York. The American League East leaders are one in a long list of teams trying to acquire Hamels. While the Los Angeles Dodgers are currently the frontrunners in a long list of teams in the chase for Hamels, the New York Yankees could feel optimistic about getting Hamels.

The teams linked to a trade for Hamels are the Houston Astros, whose acquisition of Scott Kazmir has taken them out of the running, the Chicago Cubs, who host Hamels on Saturday for his final audition, the Boston Red Sox , who remain in the mix without making much noise, and the Texas Rangers, who are seeking pitchers that can be used in the long term.
While Hamels may not appeal to the New York Yankees due to his long-term contract, the Bronx bombers need to add to their pitching staff in some way, and they seem to be asking about pitchers from all teams that are looking to sell. Also, New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman has said that the organization would not mind undertaking some major contracts if the players will help their team win a pennant.
We know that the New York Yankees and Brian Cashman would like to hold onto Luis Severino, Aaron Judge, and Greg Bird, but that idea might go out the window with the possibility of acquiring Cole Hamels. The Phillies general manager, Ruben Amaro, has always demanded an unfair amount of players in his trades, but this one may be deserving of the large haul being asked for.
#Yankees contacted #Phillies on Hamels, sources tell me and @jonmorosi . PHI likes Judge; NYY not planning to move Judge, Bird, Severino.

While these trade talks may not be very serious, it would be an interesting pick-up for the Yankees. The New York Yankees could definitely use a rotation upgrade, since Masahiro Tanaka and Michael Pineda have been inconsistent, and Nathan Eovaldi, Ivan Nova, and CC Sabathia all have an argument for them to be moved to the bullpen. Keep an eye on these intriguing trade talks because things can change very quickly.
Cashman: “We’ve had conversations with every club willing to sell, finding out what they’re willing to sell and what their price tags are.”

Cashman added: “You engage everyone about everything.” Standard operating procedure for #Yankees at this time of year.

Do you think the New York Yankees will make a transaction in order to acquire Cole Hamels? If not, what other moves do you see the Yankees making before the trade deadline on July 31?
