WWE SummerSlam may have only one match confirmed so far, but there are plenty of others being rumored already. With less than a month to go, a number of programs have already started up to get matches rolling, but one star is kind of in limbo. Even though everyone kind of knows where he is going, his opponent has been absent. That’s all about to change as Dolph Ziggler is expected back in WWE in time for a match with Rusev at the event.
As Cageside Seats reminded everyone, Ziggler was written off WWE television a couple of weeks ago with an injury angle. Rusev was out in the ring with his walking boot and crutches, but he destroyed Ziggler with the crutch and “injured” his throat.
Well, in all reality, Ziggler has been filming a movie called 6:42 for WWE Studios, and that’s the reason he hasn’t been featured on TV. He’s also managed to keep quite on his Twitter during this time too, and that helps sell the injury.
According to PW Insider , Ziggler is going to be returning to the ring and WWE television in time to have a match with Rusev at SummerSlam . The match could be a singles match or a mixed tag match partnering Summer Rae with Rusev and Lana with Ziggler.
It would be Lana’s debut match in WWE.
Dolph Ziggler has been the subject of a lot of discussion and rumors over the past couple of months. One rumor had him going to TNA when his contract expired and another said he had signed a new contract with WWE, but then another refuted that rumor too.
Ziggler has admitted that he would love to do more stand-up comedy and even star in some movies or TV shows. His contract status with WWE is currently said to have a few more months on his present deal.
What happens after that, well, it remains to be seen.
Along with a host of others, Ziggler has been stuck in the mid-card level for quite some time. Ever since Daniel Bryan and John Cena won the Intercontinental Title though, WWE has been trying to elevate that belt to make it more than just a mid-card title under the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
Dolph Ziggler has been “injured,” but he’s not going to be gone much longer. One of the more popular WWE superstars will be back soon and continue building his program with Rusev for a singles or mixed tag match at SummerSlam .
