After WWE Battleground , everyone knew one match that was definitely going to be on the SummerSlam card and that is The Undertaker vs. Brock Lesnar. On Monday Night Raw , that match was made official by Triple H, and a lot of others were teased and rumored. Oddly enough, though, some of them were not expected and seem to be coming out of nowhere.
Early in the night, The Undertaker started off Raw by saying that streaks were meant to be broken, but he wanted revenge and he wanted Brock Lesnar. Triple H granted that match for SummerSlam , and it later led to a gigantic brawl that brought almost the entire locker room to break it up.
That one match is cemented in place, but a lot of others were rumored due to other things that happened on Raw .
First of all, Sting did not show up on Raw as many thought he would. It looks like the night was so stacked that WWE is going to wait until possibly next week. He is still reportedly going to have a SummerSlam match, but it’s not quite certain who his opponent will be.
Champion vs. Champion: Seth Rollins vs. John Cena
Even though there have been weeks of rumors saying Cena and Kevin Owens would face off again at SummerSlam , Owens may not even end up on the card. The interaction between Seth Rollins and Cena tonight made it seem as if they could drag things out for a month and build up toward a champion vs. champion match.
This may not be what everyone wants, but it does make things interesting. It gives Rollins a new direction and allows for Cena to be challenged from a higher spot. There is a chance that Owens could still return and be added in for a Triple Threat match for the WWE Title.
The Wyatt Family vs. Dean Ambrose & Roman Reigns
Roman Reigns lost to Bray Wyatt last night due to interference, but tonight, he was able to best Luke Harper . Dean Ambrose was in Reigns’ corner, and it appears as if this feud could continue and go toward a tag-team match at SummerSlam .
It’s quite possible that the Wyatt Family could end up adding a third member to the “family,” and that would lead to Ambrose and Reigns needing to find a third too. There’s no word on who that could be as of yet – maybe, Neville or Sting?
WWE Tag Titles – Prime Time Players vs. The New Day
After defeating The New Day last night to retain, it hasn’t made them stop wanting the titles. They are going to keep chasing them and likely get another shot at the Prime Time Players at SummerSlam , but maybe a stipulation will be added.
Other matches expected and rumored are as follows.
- Divas three-team tag match or Divas Title Match – Nikki Bella vs. Charlotte
- Dolph Ziggler & Lana vs. Rusev & Summer Rae
- Cesaro vs. Kevin Owens
There is still more than a month until WWE presents SummerSlam , and so much could happen in that amount of time. The rumors are flying, and everyone wants to know where Sting will fit into the whole ordeal, but things are starting to come together and matches are beginning to form.
