As the last season of Sleepy Hollow concluded, fans saw a fitting end to Katrina Crane (Katia Winter), though some might say Katrina had long outstayed her welcome on Sleepy Hollow . Katrina wasn’t exactly trustworthy, particularly where Henry Parrish was involved. Much of the second half of Sleepy Hollow ‘s previous season left Ichabod Crane (Tom Mison) devastated by betrayals and, with the death of Katrina, Crane has also been left widowed and single.
Now, Sleepy Hollow is set to begin a new chapter. As Sleepy Hollow begins its third year , a new beginning brings with it a new series regular with unique implications for Ichabod. Sleepy Hollow will be bringing in Nikki Reed as a new series regular, with Ms. Reed set to star as an updated version of Betsy Ross.
As has been the case with many of Sleepy Hollow ‘s fictionalized versions of some of our nations’ most notable historical figures, there will be more to Nikki’s Betsy Ross than a mere seamstress charged with creating the nation’s first flag. Sleepy Hollow has Reed’s character cast as a secret rebel spy in league with George Washington, as well as a possible love interest for Mison’s Crane.
“We are all very excited to welcome Nikki Reed into the world of Sleepy Hollow ,” the show’s co-creator and executive producer, Len Wiseman, said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter . “Nikki’s the perfect choice to bring a smart and sexy edge to our show’s twisted version of American icon, Betsy Ross.”
There is little known as to how Betsy Ross will be incorporated into the Sleepy Hollow storyline, as season 3 picks up and, adding to the confusion, comes news that there will also be a Sleepy Hollow/Bones crossover in the near future as well. Knowing that Bones utilizes anthropology to solve crimes, it seems likely that a case having to do with colonial America will lead the team to Sleepy Hollow , but anything beyond that is up to speculation.
It does seem, from the known information, that fans will have to watch crossover episodes on each of the two series to get the full story, but, as creative teams for both Sleepy Hollow and Bones have said that they have “an inventive idea in place that organically merges the vastly different Bones and Sleepy [ Hollow ] universes,” the experience should prove entertaining with little confusion.
Sleepy Hollow returns on October 1 on FOX.
