As we saw this past week on WWE RAW , WWE Principle Owner Stephanie McMahon came out interrupting the WWE Diva’s Champion Nikki Bella and her Bella Army as they gloated on being the best of the best. They said that they were begging for competition to take down. Stephanie decided to give them just that and introduced the world to WWE NXT Divas Charlotte, Becky Lynch, and Sasha Banks.
Many wondered why WWE decided to go with this concept when the original idea was to have WWE Diva Paige bring in Sasha Banks and Charlotte as her back-up against the Bellas.
According to Cageside Seats , the reason plans changed was really to help the WWE NXT Divas out. The feeling was that if Stephanie McMahon introduced them, it would be a nice rub and give all three instant credibility with fans by giving the impression of bringing them in personally.
It make sense at the end of the day, as it allows for Stephanie to have a personal stake in what happens with all three. It shows that WWE will most likely use all three well because Stephanie would look bad if they came off bad. She brought them in personally, storyline wise. So if they sucked, her idea would, too. WWE wouldn’t want to give such an impression.
The change of plans is what probably led to WWE not having either Sasha Banks or Charlotte come out last week when they both were backstage and ready to do so. WWE decided to bring three girls up and give all three a chance to help create three different WWE Diva factions. This allows for WWE to give the current roster girls a reason to be involved and does not put all the love behind the new girls.
Sasha Banks is now part of Team B.A.D., which includes her, Naomi, and Tamina Snuka. She automatically can go against a Becky Lynch, for example, who is in Paige’s stable. They both could go after Nikki Bella, and the combos can continue on and on. The idea of women coming together in a manner similar to high school cliques makes a lot of sense, as it would happen backstage regardless. Why not have it on TV where it is visible? This allows the trios travel together and help each other out in matches or in future situations.
This whole plan gave WWE a way to bring in the girls from WWE NXT while still not burying the main roster girls at the same time. It makes it much easier for all three to transition in as well as be taken seriously. If two randomly came up with Paige, the storylines wouldn’t be as open, and you’d have a lot of weird concepts for things. Plus there wouldn’t be a McMahon involvement to make sure something gets done. Now that this is done, we can at least assume things will improve well in the WWE Diva Division.
