Kurt Sutter revealed the first official trailer for his new series The Bastard Executioner during Comic-Con 2015 this past weekend. Following the premiere to fans who attended the San Diego event, the trailer was aired to everyone else during The Strain’s Season 2 premiere on FX.

The Bastard Executioner centers on the story of a warrior knight under King Edward I. The night, who is spent after years of violence and war, retires to live a peaceful life and swears to lay down his sword forever. However, the violent life he chose to leave behind discovers him again and he is forced to once again pick up his sword and become the executioner.

The new series stars Lee Jones as the warrior knight, Katey Sagal ( Sons of Anarchy ), Stephen Moyer ( True Blood ), Flora Spencer-Longhurst, Sam Spruell, Darren Evans, Danny Sapani, Timothy V. Murphy ( Sons of Anarchy ), Sarah White, Sarah Sweeney, Elen Rhys, Ethan Griffiths, and Matthew Rhys in a guest star appearance.

The new trailer, which is only half a minute long, features a lot of Jones as the lead character, and offers a glimpse at what fans can expect to see when the series premieres in the fall. Further, the trailer included plenty of violent looking scenes, including a large pile of dead bodies, and the most memorable line was “There’s nothing more dangerous than a Welshman who has nothing to lose.”

Along with the characters portrayed in the short clip, the video shows how beautiful the countryside of Wales can be and how it fits perfectly into the time frame of the show. Additionally, we now have a better idea as to what the tone of the new show will be like and how much violence will play a part in the series.

For his part, Sutter was not present for the Comic-Con event, despite the debut of the trailer. Sutter was unable to attend the event because he was busy filming the remainder of this season of The Bastard Executioner in Wales. In light of the release of the new trailer, Sutter gave a shout out to Comic-Con fans on his Instagram account.

“Hope #comiccon2015 was fun,” Sutter wrote alongside an image of The Bastard Executioner’s logo. “And you enjoyed The Bastard Executioner trailer. I was in Wales engaged in a whole other kind of cosplay.”

Although an official premiere date has not been announced, The Bastard Executioner is expected to air in the fall on FX. Check out the trailer below.
