In Season 5 of AMC’s The Walking Dead , fans saw the arrival of a potential new threat: the Wolves. When the cast and crew took to the stage at San Diego Comic-Con , the Wolves were discussed, although the cast did not seem overly concerned about the arrival of a new threat.
The Wolves seem to be a group of survivors who have attempted to revert back to earlier times, likening themselves to wolves with their pack and their basic needs. During the course of Season 5 of The Walking Dead , fans got to see small snippets of their arrival. Michonne (played by Danai Gurira) standing in front of graffiti stating the wolves are close by, walkers with “W” carved into their foreheads, that weird set up that Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) and Aaron (Ross Marquand) visited where there was a truck-o-walkers trap.
But will they turn out to be more of a threat in Season 6 of The Walking Dead ? According to Greg Nicotero, who not only directed Episode 1 but coordinates the walkers for the series, Season 6 goes further than other seasons of The Walking Dead in relation to walkers. In Episode 1 alone, there are more walkers than in any other episode ever on The Walking Dead . At one stage, they had 300 walkers on set.
As for the Wolves, when a fan asked Walking Dead writer Scott Gimple whether the Wolves would play a big part in season 6, Gimple replied, “Yes, they will play a part of season 6, hopefully in a way you don’t expect.”
It certainly looks like the walkers will be the bigger threat to the characters in Season 6 of The Walking Dead . And many of the cast members do not appear concerned either way. When another fan asked the cast who they were more afraid of, the Wolves or walkers, they were quick to answer. Andrew Lincoln (who plays Ricks Grimes) said he wasn’t scared of anyone. Steven Yeun (Glenn Rhee) was eager for the arrival of the Wolves. Michael Cudlitz (Abraham) said he was more afraid of the living than the dead. Melissa McBride (Carol) also pointed out that perhaps they should be more afraid of the Wolves as they could hide, whereas walkers couldn’t.
The full panel for The Walking Dead included Scott Gimple, Gale Anne Hurd, Dave Alpert, Greg Nicotero, Andrew Lincoln (who plays Rick Grimes), Steven Yeun (Glenn Rhee), Chandler Riggs (Carl Grimes), Danai Gurira (Michonne), Michael Cudlitz (Abraham), Melissa McBride (who plays Carol and brought cookies along to Comic-Con. No one was game enough to eat them), Lennie James (Morgan), Sonequa Martin-Green (Sasha), and Norman Reedus (who plays fan favorite Daryl Dixon and took phone video of the audience as he entered).
The Walking Dead will return for Season 6 on Sunday October 11, 2015, on AMC. You can view the Comic-Con trailer for Season 6 here .
